===========================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Where Were They 150 Years Ago?

It's Saturday Night -

time for more Genealogy Fun!

Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible! music) is to:

1)  Determine where your ancestral families were on 12 January 1869 - 150 years ago.

2)  List them, their family members, their birth years, and their residence location (as close as possible).  Do you have a photograph of their residence, and does the residence still exist?  How many do you have in each generation living in January 1869?

3)  Tell us all about it in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook Status  post.

Here's mine:

*  My second great-grandparents, Isaac Seaver (1823-1901) and Lucretia T. (Smith) Seaver (1828-1884), resided in Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts with their children, including my great-grandfather, Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922).  I think they resided at 7 Cedar Street and I have a photo of the house.

*  My second great-grandparents, Edward Hildreth (1831-1899) and Sophia (Newton) Hildreth, resided in Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts with their only child at the time, my great-grandmother, Hattie Louisa Hildreth (1857-1920).  In the 1870 U.S. Census, they resided at 149 Lancaster Street, and I have a photo of the house.

*  My third great-grandmother, Elizabeth Horton (Dill) Smith (1791-1869), widow of Alpheus Smith, probably resided in Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts with her daughter.  I don't know the location of her home.

*  My third great-grandmother, Sophia (Buck) (Brigham) (Newton) Stone (1791-1882) probably resided in Southborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts with her third husband, Jonathan Stone.  I don't know the location of their home.

*  My great-grandparents, Thomas Richmond (1848-1917) and Julia E. (White) Richmond (1848-1913) probably resided in Stonington, New London County, Connecticut with one child.  I don't know the location of their house.

*  My second great-grandparents, James Richmond (1821-1912) and Hannah (Rich) Richmond (1824-1911) probably resided in Putnam, Windham County, Connecticut with their children.  I don't know the location of her home.

*  My second great-grandfather, Henry White (1824-1885) resided in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut with several of his children.  I don't know the location of his home.

*  My third great-grandfather, Jonathan Oatley (1792-1872) resided in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut.  I think that I know the location of their home in East Killingly but don't have a photo of it.

*  My second-great-grandparents, David Jackson Carringer (1827-1902) and Rebecca (Spangler) Carringer (1832-1901), resided in Jackson, Washington County, Iowa with their children, including my great-grandfather, Henry Austin Carringer (1853-1946).  I don't know the location of their home.

*  My third great-grandfather, Henry Carringer (1800-1879) resided in Columbus City, Louisa County, Iowa.  I have found the location of his land from a deed record.

*  My second-great-grandparents, Devier J. Smith (1839-1894) and Abbie A. (Vaux) Smith (1844-1931), resided in Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa with their children, including my great-grandmother Della A. Smith (1862-1944).  I have identified the location of their land from deed records.

*  My third great-grandparents, Ranslow Smith (1805-1873) resided in Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa.    I have identified the location of his land from a deed record.

*  My third great-grandparents, Samuel Vaux (1814-1880) and Mary Ann (Underhill) Vaux (1815-1882) probably resided in Andrew County, Missouri.  I know the location of their land from a deed record.

*  My second great-grandparents, David Auble (1817-1894) and Sarah (Knapp) Auble (1818-1904) resided in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana with some of their children, including my great-grandfather Charles Auble (1849-1916).  I know the location of their home.

*  My third great-grandmother, Sarah (Cutter) Knapp (1785-1878), widow of William Knapp (1775-1856), resided in New Barbados, Bergen County, New Jersey with one of her children.  I don't know the location of her home.

*  My second great-grandparents, James Abraham Kemp (1831-1902) and Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp (1841-1874), resided in Windham township, Norfolk County, Ontario with their children, including my great grandmother Georgianna Kemp (1868-1952).  I think that I have identified the location of their land.

*  My third great-grandfather, Abraham James Kemp (1795-1881) probably resided in Norfolk County, Ontario.  I don't know the location of his land.

*  My third great-grandparents, Alexander Sovereen (1814-1907) and Eliza (Putman) Sovereen (1820-1895) resided in Windham township, Norfolk County, Ontario.  I don't know the location of their land.

*  My fourth great-grandfather, Frederick Sovereen (1786-1876) resided in Norfolk County, Ontario.  I don't know the location of his land.

So I have these generations living in January, 1869:

*  8 great-grandparents (2 in Massachusetts, 2 in Connecticut, 2 in Iowa, 1 in Indiana, 1 in Ontario
*  15 second great-grandparents (4 in Massachusetts, 2 in Rhode Island, 2 in Connecticut, 4 in Iowa, 3 in Indiana, 2 in Ontario)
*  11 third great-grandparents (2 in Massachusetts, 1 in Connecticut, 2 in Iowa, 1 in New Jersey, 2 in Missouri, 3 in Ontario)
*  1 fourth great-grandparents (1 in Ontario)

Therefore, I have 35 ancestors living in January 1869, 150 years ago.
