=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

4)  NOTES

Jan Bloetgoet was born before 4 August 1672, when he was baptized in the old Dutch Church in Flushing, New York, the youngest son of Frans Janszen and Lysbeth Janse (Van Gouda) Bloetgoet of Flushing[1-2].

Jan married Mary Morgan (1672-1730) before 1694 in New York[1-3].  She was probably the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Feake) Morgan of Flushing.  They had six children:

*  Francis Bloodgood (1694-1766), married 1717 Judith Shotwell (?) (1697-1766).
*  John Bloodgood (1696-1756), married 1728 Sarah Brinckerhoff (1709-1760).
*  William Bloodgood (1698-1756), married 1726 Mary Gach (1700-1760).
*  Jeffrey Bloodgood (1700-????).
*  Elizabeth Bloodgood (1702-177), married 1721 Thomas Gach (1702-1770).
*  Deborah Bloodgood (1705-1749), married 1735 Byerly Bashford (1710-1794).

John Bloodgood was described as a wheelwright and carpenter who purchased considerable property in Westchester County, New York, but, apparently, did not reside there.  On 4 August 1703, John Williams sold land in Mamaroneck, Westchester County to John Bloodgood of Flushing, carpenter and later in 1703 John Bloodgood, carpenter, sold land in Mamaroneck to Godfrey Hans, ropemaker of Mamaroneck[2].

John Bloodgood died intestate after 1715, the year that he belonged to the Company of Jonathan Wright, and 18 May 1716 when a "certain document was prepared, signed and sealed by Governor Robert Hunter, Esq., concerning John's widow Mary and the settlement of his affairs.[2]"

Mary (Morgan) Bloodgood married, secondly, Captain James Savage[2].  Mary is mentioned in the 1720 will of her father, Charles Morgan of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, as the wife of Captain James Savage.  In Mary's will proved in 1730, she mentions her son William Bloodgood[2].

 I received this information from Daniel Horowitz of MyHeritage today:

==========================================

I’m happy to share that from October 27 to November 1, 2023, we’re offering free access to all death, burial, cemetery, and obituary records on MyHeritage: 370 collections and 881,738,760 records in all at myheritage.com/halloween:

Free death records for Halloween

Death records are essential for family history research. They often include birth and death dates, the names of family members, last known addresses, and sometimes even cause of death. Providing a wealth of information, all in one place, death records can act as springboards for further investigations into other areas of an ancestor’s life. Sometimes they might even contain personal anecdotes, especially obituaries.

Please share the news with your friends and followers let them know that they can search the free records at myheritage.com/halloween. Non-MyHeritage members will be asked to register in order to access the records. More information can be found on our blog.

Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1864 Death Record of Amy Frances (Oatley) White (1826-1864) in Norwich, Connecticut

 I looked in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1864 death record of Amy Frances (Oatley) White in the Norwich, Connecticut Town Records:

The death record is the second record at the top of  the left-hand page:

The extraction of this death record is:

*  Date:  November 12 1864
*  Disease or cause of death:  Stran^? U?? Hernia
*  Name:  Amy Frances White Oatley
*  Age:   38 0  0
*  Color:  W[hite]
*  Birthplace:  Kingston R.I.
*  Last Occupation:  Housewife
*  Residence:  do [Norwich]
*  Single, married or widowed:  Married

The source citation for this  death record is:

Norwich, Conn., Registrar of Vital Statistics, Records of Births, Marriages and Deaths, 1640-1921, Family History Library (Salt Lake City, Utah), on 10 microfilm rolls, accessed on FHL US/CAN Microfilm 1,311,436, Deaths, pg. 257, image 648 of 941, Amy Frances White death record, 12 Nov 1864.

This record is probably a Derivative Source, copied neatly into a record book at an unknown time, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence for the death of Amy Frances White in Norwich, Connecticut on 12 November 1864.

Amy Frances Oatley (1826-1864) was born in 1826 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, the daughter of Jonathan and Amy (Champlin) Oatley.  Amy married Henry Arnold White (1824-1885) on 30 June 1844 in Thompson, Connecticut.  They had six children between 1845 and 1860.  Amy died 12 November 1864 in Norwich, Connecticut.

The Henry White family resided in East Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut in the 1860s, but Amy died in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut.  The places are separated by only 37 miles.  Why was she in Norwich?  I cannot identify an Oatley or White close relative who lived in Norwich in the 1860 and 1870 census records.  Perhaps Amy was visiting a friend or neighbor who had moved to Norwich.  She was only 38 years old.

I think that the cause of death was a "strangulated umbilical hernia."  I looked it up on Wikipedia, and the small intestine may have been trapped within the umbilical muscle ring adjacent to the belly button.  It occurs in adults but is much more rare than in babies.

Henry Arnold and Amy Frances (Oatley) White are my 2nd great-grandparents.  I am descended through their daughter, Julia E. White (1848-1913), who married Thomas Richmond (1848-1917) in 1868.
