===========================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Make a Timeline Report for an Ancestor

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1) Have you created a Timeline for one of your ancestors using a genealogy software program (e.g., Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic, Legacy, Reunion, etc.) or an online family tree (e.g., Ancestry Member Tree, FamilySearch Family Tree, Geni, MyHeritage, etc.), or in a spreadsheet (e.g., Excel)?

2)  If not, try to create a timeline using the program/website of your choice.  If so, create another one for the ancestor of your choice!

3)  Show us your Timeline creation, and tell us how you did it.  Which program/website, the process you used, and how you captured the images to display your timeline.

4)  Share your Timeline creation on your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or on Facebook.

Here's mine:

I chose to use the RootsMagic 7 genealogy software program, which has both a Timeline View and a Timeline Report.

Here is the "Timeline View" format in RootsMagic 7 for my 3rd great-grandmother, Sophia (Buck) (Brigham) (Newton) Stone (1797-1882):

The "Timeline View" for a person has columns for "Age," "Facts," "Date," "Details," "place" and icons for Notes, Sources, and Media (the green check marks)   The "Timeline View" added the immediate family members (parents, siblings, spouses, children) to the list without my having to request it (you can select the options in the "Options" button on the "Timeline View" menu).  I really like this view, but, other than using a screen capture like above, I could not find a way to print out this list in color.  Also, it extends over several screens.

The second option to produce a Timeline is to use the Reports menu > "Lists" item > "Timeline (chronology)" item, and select "Individual Timeline list," select a person, from the "Select others to include in timeline," select the person, click on "Mark group" and select "Family of selected person," then check the "Include place for each event" and click on "Generate Report."

Here are the two pages for the Timeline (captured as images using the Windows Snipping Tool):

 I also requested "Sources" in an Endnote format:

The "Timeline (chronology)" report is very plain - but it is very useful.  I would like to see a little more information about the relationships - for instance, identify the family persons as son, daughter, wife, father, mother, brother, sister, etc.  I would also like to see this report formatted with some graphics and color so it would be more visual.

Surname Saturday -- LNU (Elizabeth, married Thomas Foster, England to colonial Massachusetts)

It's Surname Saturday, and I'm "counting down" my Ancestral Name List each week.

I am working in the 9th great-grandmothers by Ahnentafel number, and I am up to Ancestor #2381 who is Elizabeth LNU (1618-1695). [Note: the more recent ancestral families have been covered in earlier posts.]

My ancestral line back through one generation in this LNU family line is:

1. Randall J. Seaver

2. Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983)
3. Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002)

4. Frederick Walton Seaver (1876-1942)
5. Alma Bessie Richmond (1882-1962)

8. Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922)
9. Hattie Louise Hildreth (1857-1920)

18.  Edward Hildreth (1831-1899)
19.  Sophia Newton (1834-1923)

36.  Zachariah Hildreth (1783-1857)
37.  Hannah Sawtell (1789-1857)

74.  Josiah Sawtell (1768-1847)
75.  Hannah Smith (1768-1827)

148.  Ephraim Sawtell (1735-1800)
149.  Abigail Stone (1737-1800)

296.  Hezekiah Sawtell (1703-1779)
297.  Joanna Wilson (1702-1786)

594.  John Wilson (1673-1717)
595.  Elizabeth Foster (1673-1742)

1190.  Joseph Foster (1650-1721)

1191.  Alice Gorton (1652-1712)

2380.  Thomas Foster, born About 1600 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England; died 20 April 1682 in Billerica, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.  He was the son of 4760. Thomas Foster and 4761. Abigail Wimes.  He married 1638 in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts, United States.
2381.  Elizabeth LNU, born about 1618 in England; died 29 January 1694/5 in Billerica, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

Children of Thomas Foster and Elizabeth LNU are:
*  Thomas Foster (1640-1679), married 1662 Sarah Parker (1640-1718).
*  John Foster (1642-1732), married (1) 1661 Mary Chillingsworth (1642-1702),; (2) 1702 Saqrah Thomas (1646-1731).
*  Increase Foster (1644-????).
* Experience Foster (1644-????), married 1663 Joseph French (1640-????).
*  Elizabeth Foster (1646-1726), married 1667 James Frost (1640-1711).
*  Hopestill Foster (1648-1679), married 1670 Elizabeth Pierce (1636-????).
Joseph Foster (1650-1721), married (1) 1672 Alice Gorton (1652-1712); (2) 1714 Margaret Brown (1654-1717); (3) after 1717 Rebecca Parker (1661-1754).

Some sources indicate that Elizabeth LNU's maiden name was Whitmore, but I have found no records that provide this name.

Information about the Foster family was obtained from:

*  Frederick Clifton Pierce, Foster Genealogy (Chicago : W.B. Conkey Company, 1899).

*  Rev. Lucius R. Paige, "Family of Thomas Foster," New England Historic and Genealogical Register, Volume 26, number 4 (October 1872), page 394.

I have done no original research on this Foster line.

New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 13 September 2019

I received this information from Findmypast today:

                          ==================================================

New records available to search this Findmypast Friday

Here's what's new to the site this Findmypast Friday.

Berkshire Marriages Index

Over 63,000 additional records have been added to 16 parishes across the county. The new additions consist of transcripts provided by the Berkshire Family History Society that may reveal your relative’s age, marital status, residence, occupation, father’s name and spouse’s details. Some records may also include the names of witnesses and additional notes.

Berkshire marriages cover more than 156 parishes in Berkshire between 1538 and 1933.  The transcripts were created by both Findmypast and the Berkshire Family History Society using original marriage registers and bishop’s transcripts held by the Berkshire Archives. A third set of records originates from the Phillimore Marriage Registers. The collection will provide images from the Phillimore registers.

Derbyshire Deaths and Burials

Over 23,000 Derbyshire Family History Society transcripts have been added for 12 cemeteries around the county. As well as revealing the final resting place of your ancestor, these records may also reveal their age at death, birth year, death year, burial date and if they died paupers. Some records may also list next of kin, allowing you to add new names to your growing family tree.

10 brand new parishes have been added to the collection:
  • Breaston
  • Chellaston
  • Derby
  • Draycott
  • Duffield
  • Findern
  • Marston on Dove
  • Mickleover
  • Spondon
  • Temple Normanton
Plus, records have also been added to two existing parishes, Wilne and St Chad and Sudbury, All Saints.

Irish Boundary Commission Records 1924-1925

The Irish Boundary Commission was set up to determine the boundary between the Irish Free State and Northern Ireland. Findmypast has digitized this collection of more than 47,000 records from The National Archives which include the Commission’s minutes, papers, correspondence and report of the Irish Boundary Commission, and records of oral and written evidence submitted to it.

British In Ceylon Parish Records

From 1815 until 1948, Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, was a British colony. The 4,500 records in this collection span that period and have been collected and transcribed by the Kabristan Archives. British & Irish newspaper update

This week we have added 110,926 new pages to our collection. This includes two newspapers that cover the historic county of Dumfriesshire. Both weekly publications, the Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser was published in Langholm and the newspaper continues to this day, and the Galloway News and Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser was published in Dalbeattie.

Rounding off our trio of new Scottish titles this week is the Montrose Standard, another weekly title that was published in Angus. Founded in 1837, we have an extensive run of editions for this particular publication, numbering nearly 50,000 pages and so far spanning the years 1844 to 1957, representing over a century’s worth of local news coverage.
