Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Three Things For Father's Day

  Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night Again -

Time For Some More Genealogy Fun!!

Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.

1)  It's Father's Day on Sunday.  Tell us three things about your father, or one of your grandfathers (or another male ancestor), that have influenced you in your life.

2)  Share your response on your own blog or in a Facebook post.  Please share a link in Comments on this post if you write your own post.

Here's mine:

My maternal grandfather, Lyle Lawrence Carringer (1891-1976) was one of the biggest male influences on me.  He was humble, soft-spoken, disciplined and always right in every thing he said or did.

1)  He was loyal and determined.  For instance, he started as a cash boy at age 14 in the Marston's department store in San Diego, and retired as the head auditor after 56 years in 1961.   He and my grandmother were married for 58 years and I never heard them argue.

2)  He was small (5'7" and 125 pounds in 1918 at age 26), and was really smart.  He knew how to do almost anything - build and maintain a house, plant, nourish and trim bushes and trees, keep the automobile running, understand science and explain it.

3)  He never raised his voice, and was very patient and kind.  He loved his daughter and grandsons.  He had personal interests - philately the most time consuming.  I think he collected and shared and traded postage stamps all his life and was very proud of his collection.  He read a lot and studied maps and learned from experience.

--- Updated Collections ---

There are 1,116 updated collections on the list - too many to list here.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

=============================================

NOTE:  The U.S. State Will and Probate collections listed have only one entry in them.  These are probably placeholders for populating each state collection with images and links to them from the digitized microfilms, and will be the vehicle to use Full-Text Search (and transcription!) to the images.

52 Relatives: Ellen Frances (White) Buck (1845-1916) of Connecticut and Massachusetts

  I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-grandparents and a number of close relatives - see the list in 52 Ancestors/Relatives Biographies.

This "52 Relatives" theme is a weekly series to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short genealogical sketches, including important events, and with source citations.  These relatives lived and died within a family structure, and deserve a genealogical sketch - they were integral parts and important persons in the lives of my ancestral families.  I will post the sketches on my Ancestry Member Tree and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.

Findmypast Friday: Discover a Trio of Bedfordshire Parish Records

 I received this information from Findmypast today:

=========================================

There are over 22,000 new and improved records for you to explore this Findmypast Friday.

Our parish record collection grew by 23,516 this week, as we've updated and improved three existing sets from Bedfordshire - Bedfordshire Baptisms, Bedfordshire Marriages and Bedfordshire Burials.

We also added over a million pages to our newspaper archive, with one brand new title and updates to a further 51. This takes our total page count to a mind-boggling 79 million.

This week we added 10,239 images and transcriptions spanning 274 years to this existing record set.

BedfordshireMarriages

Randy's Cousins -- 8th Cousins 2x Removed Wilbur and Orville Wright, the Famous Aviation Pioneers

This week's famous cousins are my 8th cousins 2x removed Wilbur Wright (1867-1912) and Orville Wright (1871-1948), the famous aviation pioneers.

Here is Orville's Family Search Family Tree short biography:

When Orville Wright was born on 19 August 1871, in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio, United States, his father, Milton Wright, was 42 and his mother, Susan Catherine Koerner, was 40. He lived in Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa, United States in 1880 and Van Buren Township, Montgomery, Ohio, United States for about 10 years. He died on 30 January 1948, in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio, United States, at the age of 76, and was buried in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio, United States.

The Wikipedia profile for the Wright Brothers is here. Wright Brothers is here.

The Wright brothers, Orville Wright (August 19, 1871 – January 30, 1948) and  Wilbur Wright (April 16, 1867 – May 30, 1912), were American aviation pioneers generally credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful   airplane. They made the first controlled, sustained flight of an engine-powered, heavier-than-air aircraft with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903, four miles (6 km) south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, at what is now known as Kill Devil Hills. In 1904 the Wright brothers developed the Wright Flyer II, which made longer-duration flights including the first circle, followed in 1905 by the first truly practical fixed-wing aircraft, the Wright Flyer III

Here is the Relative Finder chart showing my relationship to Orville Wright (Wilbur's is identical):

My most recent common ancestors with 8th cousin 2x removed cousins Orville and Wilbur Wright are my 11th great-grandparents Edmund Freeman (1596-1682) and Bennett Hodsoll (1596-1932).

Are you related to the Wright Brothers?  Check out Orville's profile on the FamilySearch Family Tree and click the "View Relationship" link at the top of the page.  Note that you have to have your profile connected to the FamilySearch Family Tree in order for this to work.

This shows that you never know to whom you might be related!!!  I'm having lots of Genealogy Fun.  Click here to see all of my famous cousins.

Treasure Chest Thursday - 1717 Marriage of Jonathan Partridge and Elizabeth Lernard in Medway, Massachusetts Bay

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - an opportunity to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history research and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1717 marriage entry for Jonathan Partridge and Elizabeth Lernard in Medway, Suffolk county, Massachusetts in the Framingham town records:

The marriage record is the 5th from the bottom of the page:

The transcription of this record is::

"Nov 13 1717 Elizabeth Lernard of Framingham & Jonathan Partridge of Medway were married at Medway by David Deming of Medway"

The source citation for this record is (using Evidence Explained 4th edition template):

Framingham [Massachusetts] Town Records, marriage of Elizabeth Lernard and Jonathan Partridge at Medway, 13 November 1717; imaged, "Massachusetts Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988," Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/58686716:2495); Framingham > Town Records with Births, Marriages and Deaths, page 272-3 (image 129 of 175); original records in Framingham town record book for "Framingham Births, Marriages and Deaths, 1690-1809."

This is a marriage entry from the Framingham, Massachusetts town records.  It is a Derivative Source (because it was copied from an earlier record), with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the marriage of Elizabeth Lernard and Jonathan Partridge in Medway.

Elizabeth Lernard (1696-1738) was born 27 July 1696 in Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay, the daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Bigelow) Learned.  She died 23 April 1738 in Medway, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay.  Jonathan Partridge (1693-1756) was born 25 November 1693 in Medfield, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay, the son of John and Elizabeth (Adams?) Partridge.  He died 6 November 1756 in Barre, Worcester County, Massachusetts Bay.  Jonathan and Elizabeth (Lernard) Partridge had 11 children.

Jonathan and Elizabeth (Lernard) Partridge are my 7th great-grandparents, through their son Jasper Partridge (1732-1821) who married Mary Rice (1737-1767) in 1756 in Barre, Worcester County, Massachusetts Bay.
