Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- What Is On Your FamilySearch To-Do List?

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.

1)  When was the last time you visited the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, or visited a local FamilySearch Center?

2)  What record collections are on your To-Do List, whether at the FamilySearch Library, or a FamilySearch Center, or the Full-Text Search feature online, or Digital Microfilm on the Images or Catalog Link on the FamilySearch.org website?

3)   Share a link to your blog post, or your Facebook Status post, on this post.

Here's mine:

My last trip to the FamilySearch Library (FSL) in Salt Lake City was in 2020 while at the RootsTech conference.  The last time I did some useful research there was while at the 2018 RootsTech conference.

The last time I visited a local FamilySearch Center (FSC) was probably in about 2018 when I copied many images from the "Library only" digital microfilm for the Hilperton, Wiltshire,  Tax Assessment List which listed residents there along with property owners, but I gathered information only up to 1793.

I continue to search the available FamilySearch Catalog images, the Images collection, and the Full-Text Search feature, mainly land records, on a regular basis.

I started a To-Do list of items I need to find, review and capture (if available) at the FSL or FSC - here is what is on my list at this time:
I need to do more searching for other ancestors, especially with land and probate records.  All of the above are in the FamilySearch Catalog, but, apparently, the land records are not in the Full-Text Search because they are in the "Library only" collections.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

52 Relatives: Great-Grandaunt Frances Mary "Fannie" Auble (1846-1917) of New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa

Frances Mary "Fannie" Auble was born in October 1846, probably in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey, the second child of David and Sarah G. (Knapp) Auble.

The Auble family moved to Newark, Essex County, New Jersey before 1850.

In the 1850 United States census, the David Auble family resided in the West Ward of Newark, Union County, New Jersey.[1]  The household included:

  • David Auble -- age 32, male, a boot and shoe man, born in NJ
  • Sarah Auble -- age 30, female, born NJ
  • William Auble -- age 5, male, born NJ, attended school
  • Frances Auble -- age 3, female, born NJ
  • Charles Auble -- age 1, male, born NJ.

In the 1860 United States census, the David Auble family resided in the Fourth Ward of Newark,  New Jersey.[2]  The family included:

  • David Auble -- age 42, male, worked in a shoe store, had personal property of $500, born NJ
  • Sarah Auble -- age 39, female, born NJ
  • Wm A. Auble -- age 15, male, born NJ, attended school
  • Mary F. Auble -- age 13, female, born NJ, attended school
  • Chas Auble -- age 11, male, born NJ, attended school
  • Kate Auble -- age 8, female, born NJ
  • Anna Auble -- age 1, female, born NJ

The David Auble family moved to Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana in about 1865.

In the 1870 United States census, the Daniel Auble family resided in Terre Haute city, Vigo County, Indiana.[3]  The household included:

  • Daniel Auble (perhaps this is a census taker's error for David, it is obviously the David Auble family) -- age 53, male, a boot and shoemaker, with $2,500 in real estate and $200 in personal property, born NJ
  • Sarah Auble -- age 50, female, keeping house, born NJ
  • Mary Auble -- age 23, female, a teacher, born NJ
  • Charles Auble -- age 21, male, a painter, born NJ
  • Kate Auble -- age 17, female, at home, born NJ, attended school
  • Anna Auble -- age 10, female, at home, born NJ, attended school
  • Cora Auble -- age 8, female, at home, born NJ, attended school

In the 1880 US census, the David Auble family resided at 40 Chestnut Street in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.[4]  The household included:

  • David Auble -- white, male, age 63, married, shoemaker, born NJ, father and mother born NJ
  • Sarah G. Auble -- white, female, age 62, wife, married, keeps house, born NJ, father born NY, mother born NJ)
  • Charles Auble -- white, male, age 30, son, single, painter, born NJ, parents born NJ
  • Fannie Auble -- white, female, age 32, daughter, single, at home, born NJ, parents born NJ
  • Katherine Auble -- white, female, age 24, daughter, single, at home, born NJ, parents born NJ
  • Anna M. Auble -- white, female, age 20, daughter, single, at home, born NJ, parents born NJ

In the 1900 US Census, the remnant of the David Auble family resided at 411 Chestnut Street in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.[5]   The household included:

  • Frances M. Auble (head of household, female, white, born Oct 1846, age 53, single, born NJ, parents born NJ, a teacher, works in a school, owns home free of mortgage)
  • Sarah G. Auble (mother, white, female, born Jan 1818, age 82, widow, 6 children born, 5 living, born NJ, parents born NJ)
  • Catherine Auble (sister, white, female, born Oct 1851, age 48, single, born NJ, parents born NJ)

Frances, her sister Catherine, and her mother Sarah (Knapp) Auble moved to Bushnell, McDonough County, Illinois after 1900, and before Sarah (Knapp) Auble died and was buried there in 1904.

In the 1910 United States census, the Anna Buntin family resided in Bushnell, McDonough County, Illinois at 369 Main Street with her sisters and her children.[6]   The household included:

  • Anna Buntin - Head, female, white, age 49, a widow, 3 children born, 3 living, born New Jersey, father born New Jersey, mother born New Jersey, speaks English, runs a Boarding house, a house keeper, on own account, can read and write, owns house free of mortgage.
  • David C. Buntin - Son, male, white, age 20, single, born Illinois, father born Indiana, mother born New Jersey, speaks English, a watchmaker, own shop, on own account, can read and write.
  • Henry O. Buntin - Son, male, white, age 15, born Illinois, father born Indiana, mother born New Jersey, speaks English, no occupation, can read and write, attended school
  • Catherine Buntin - Daughter, female, white, age 12, single, born Illinois, father born Indiana, mother born New Jersey, speaks English, no occupation, can read and write, attended school
  • Frances M. Auble - Sister, female, white, age 63, single, born New Jersey, father born New Jersey, mother born New Jersey, speaks English, no occupation, can read and write
  • Catherine Auble - Sister, female, white, age 58, single, born New Jersey, father born New Jersey, mother born New Jersey, speaks English, no occupation, can read and write

Frances Mary Auble never married.  It is probable that, being the oldest daughter, she was a caregiver for her parents as they aged and a caretaker of her younger siblings as they grew up.  Only the 1900 census provides an occupation - a teacher in a school.

Frances Mary "Fannie" Auble died on 4 January 1917 at the age of 70 in Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa where she was in a care facility, about 40 miles from Bushnell, Illinois.[7]   Frances M. Auble was buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.[8]   There is no photograph of a gravestone on the Find A Grave memorial.

A death notice was published in The Daily Gate City and Constitution-Democrat [Keokuk, Iowa] newspaper, dated Thursday, 1 March 1917 on page 5, column 6, in an article about the Benevolent Union home in Keokuk, which says:[7]

"Miss Frances Auble, who had been in the home six weeks and afflicted with heart trouble, developed pneumonia.  She died January 4.  The funeral was held January 6 from the home with many friends from Bushnell present.  Rev. Steffey officiating.  The interment took place on the Benevolent Union lot."

====================================

Frances Mary "Fannie"Auble (1846-1917) is my great-grandaunt and the sister of my great-grandfather, Charles Auble (1849-1916).

I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-grandparents and a number of close relatives - see the list in 52 Ancestors/Relatives Biographies.

The "52 Relatives" theme is a weekly series to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short genealogical sketches, including important events, and with source citations.  These relatives lived and died within a family structure, and deserve a genealogical sketch - they were integral parts and important persons in the lives of my ancestral families.  I will post the sketches on my Ancestry Member Tree, WikiTree, and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.

Findmypast Friday: Explore Northamptonshire Records This Findmypast Friday

I received this information from Findmypast today:

==========================================

These new additions may help you to trace the lives of East Midlands ancestors in more detail than ever before.

We added over 28,000 Northamptonshire records to our collection this week. Consisting of tax lists, poll books and licenses, these three brand-new sets can help you trace the lives of your East Midlands ancestors like never before.

But that's not all - we also added a new Yorkshire title to our newspaper archive this Findmypast Friday, with a total of 245,806 historical pages for you to explore.

Northamptonshire Land, Poll & Window Tax Lists

These 15,995 transcriptions document various taxes paid by Northamptonshire residents in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.  The taxes included are:
  • Land Tax: These 18th and 19th-century records can help you identify the head of a household.
  • Window Tax: Introduced in 1696 and repealed in 1851, this banded tax was based on the number of windows in a house.
  • Poll Tax: This was taxation on goods and/or income - the index of names can act almost like a census, with heads of households for each parish listed. These records document many of those who paid the poll tax in Northamptonshire's administrative areas
Northamptonshire Poll Books

This new set comprises 7,463 Northamptonshire poll book records which span the period 1768 to 1835.

Northamptonshire Quarter Sessions Licences

The 5,093 records in this brand-new set are transcriptions of licenses that were awarded by the County Quarter Sessions court between 1689 and 1932.

There are three licence types included:
  • Non-Conformist Meeting House Licenses: A licence was required for an individual or group to hold non-conformist religious services between 1689 and 1852. This index contains 1,777 names, covering 1689 to 1851.
  • Gamekeepers' Licenses: All gamekeepers had to be licensed between the 18th and 20th centuries. These records contain a name, the year of the licence, a home address and the location of the land. These records contain 2,490 names covering the period 1709 to 1932.
  • Badgers and Higglers: Badgers and higglers were wholesalers and travelling salespeople who sold food and other commercial products, and required a licence to do so. This index covers 1693 to 1773 and contains 1,777 names.

Treasure Chest Thursday - 1750 Death Record of Joseph Bulkley (1682-1750) in Fairfield, Connecticut

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - an opportunity to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history research and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1750 death record of Joseph Bulkley in Fairfield, Connecticut in the Hale Collection of Cemetety Inscriptions and Newspaper Notices book:

The cemetery record is the 8th entry from the top of the page:

The transcript of this record is:

"Bulkley, Joseph, died May 6, 1750, age 68."

The source citation for the marriage record is:

Connecticut Cemetery Record, Joseph Bulkley, died 6 May 1750, age 68; imaged, "Connecticut, U.S., Hale Collection of Cemetery Inscriptions and Newspaper Notices, 1629-1934," Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/553871:2900), Connecticut Headatone Inscriptions Vol. 16 > page 407-6 (image 20 of 657), Old [Fairfield] Cemetery; original data from The Charles R. Hale Collection. Hale Collection of Connecticut Cemetery Inscriptions, Hartford, Connecticut: Connecticut State Library.

This is a Derivative Source record (because it is compiled from gravestones in a cemetery) with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the death and age of Joseph Bulkley on 6 May 1750 in Old Cemetery, Fairfield, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America.

Joseph Bulkley (1682-1750) was born 9 May 1682 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony, the son of Joseph and Martha (Beers) Bulkley.  He died 6 May 1750 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony.  Joseph married Esther Bulkley (1684-1726) in about 1703 in Fairfield.  She was the daughter of John and Esther (Burr) Bulkley.  Joseph and Esther (Bulkley) Bulkley had at least 5 children.

Joseph and Esther (Bulkley) Bulkley are my 8th great-grandparents, through their daughter, Esther Bulkley (1713-1770) who married John Hill (1707-1759) in 1729.
