=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

52 Relatives: Everett Glenn Richmond (1875-1917) of Connecticut and Massachusetts

I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-grandparents - see the list in 52 Ancestors Biographies.

I started a new weekly series called "52 Relatives" to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short sketches with events and source citations.  They deserve a sketch also - they were integral parts of the lives of my ancestral families.  I will post the sketches on my Ancestry Member Tree and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.

                                               =================================

Everett Glenn Richmond (1875-1917) was born 24 July 1875 in Putnam, Windham, Connecticut, the third child and second son of Thomas and Julia E. (White) Richmond[1].

In the 1880 United States Census, the Thomas Richmond family resided in Killingly town, Windham, Connecticut[2].  The family included:

* Thomas Richmond -- white, male, age 31, married, overseer in a woolen mill, born England, father and mother born in England),
* Julia Richmond -- white, female, age 33, wife, married, keeping house, born CT, father born CT, mother born RI
* Annie Richmond -- white, female, age 10, daughter, single, attended school, born RI, father born England, mother born CT
* Everett Richmond -- white, male, age 4, son, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT
* Grace Richmond -- white, female, age 3, daughter, single, born CT, father born England, mother born CT
* Emily Richmond -- white, female, age 1, daughter, single, born CT, born CT, father born England, mother born CT

The Thomas Richmond family moved to Killingly, Connecticut before 1880, and to Leominster, Massachusetts by 1895.

Everett married, first, Ethel Mary Pierce (1877-1900) on 7 December 1896 in Leominster[3].  She was the daughter of George A. and Ella F. (Nourse) Pierce.  Ethel died on 1 February 1900 in Leominster, after childbirth of their only child:

*  Harvey Mott Richmond, born 1 February 1900 in Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts, died 4 February 1900 in Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts.

Everett moved back to the Putnam, Connecticut area soon after the death of his first wife and child.

In the 1900 United States Census taken in June 1900, Everett Richmond was a boarder in the household of Edgar Williams, residing at 15 Mechanic Street[4].  Everett was listed as male, white, age 24, born Feb 1876, single, a woollen mill dresser, born in Connecticut, father and mother born in Connecticut, can read, write and speak English.

He married, secondly, Ida May Fiske (1878-1942) on 18 October 1900 in Putnam, Connecticut[5]. She was the daughter of Erastus and Mary Jane (Dexter) Fiske.  They had two children:

*  Juliet Mae Richmond, born 13 June 1911 in Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts, died 3 February 1974 in Manchester, Hartford, Connecticut.  She married Edmond J. Morancey on 17 October 1931 in Millerton, Dutchess, New York.  He was born 8 September 1910 in Connecticut, and died 10 May 1988 in Bristol, Hartford, Connecticut.

*  Everett Fiske Richmond, born 8 August 1913 in Putnam, Windham, Connecticut, died 20 September 1977 in Manchester, Hartford, Connecticut.  He married Arlee S. Lee, born 1 January 1911 in Connecticut, died 6 August 1977 in Manchester, Hartford, Connecticut.

In the 1910 United States Census, the Everett Richmond household reside on River Street in Plainfield, Windham County, Connecticut[6]. The household included:

* Everett Richmond - male, white, age 40, head, first marriage, for 8 years, Born Connecticut, father and mother born Connecticut, speaks English, a dresser tender in a woolen mill, can read and write, rents a house.
* Ida Richmond - female, white, age 35, wife, first marriage, for 8 years, no children born or living, born Connecticut, father and mother born Connecticut, speaks English, can read and write.

Everett Glenn Richmond died 4 January 1917 at age 41 of pneumonia in Killingly, Windham, Connecticut[7-8].  He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Leominster, Massachusetts in Section 20, Lot 122[8].

An obituary for Everett G. Richmond was published in the Norwich [Conn.] Morning Bulletin newspaper dated 5 January 1917:

"Everett G. Richmond

"Everett G. Richmond, ill with pneumonia for just a week, died at 2:45 on Thursday morning at his home in the Mashentuck district.  From the first his illness was of a violent nature and his condition became so critical within a short time as almost to preclude hope for his recovery.  He was 41 years of age.

"Mr. Richmond was born in Putnam, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Richmond.  Practically of his life had been spent in this vicinity.  Sixteen years ago he was married to Miss Ida Fiske, daughter of Mrs. Mary Jane Fiske of this town.  Mrs. Richmond survives her husband with two children, Juliette, 5, and Everett G., 3.  He also leaves his father, resident in Putnam, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Annie Pickford, Clinton, Mass.; Mrs. Grace Shaw, Fitchburg, Mass.; Mrs. Bessie Seaver, Leominster, Mass.; and Emily of California; Edward of Leominster, Mass."

Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1713 Baptism of John Maishman (1713-1761) in Melksham, Wiltshire

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - an opportunity to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history research and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 173 Baptism entry for the John Maishman in the Melksham, Wiltshire parish register:

The baptism record for John Marshman is the 15th entry from the bottom of the page:

The transcription of this record is:

"John the son of William Maishman   August 25'th [1713]"

The source citation for this record is:

"Wiltshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812," indexed database with record images, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com), Melksham > Parish Registers > 1733, image 44 of 84, John Maishman, son of William Maishman, baptism 25 August 1713.

John Maishman (1713-1761) was born before 25 August 1713, the son of William and Millicent (Hawkins) Maishman, in Melksham, Wiltshire.  He died before 3 October 1761 in Melksham, when his will was proved.  He married Jane Crook (1720-1785) on on 13 April 1740 in Melksham.

John and Jane (Crook) Marshman are my 5th great-grandparents; they had 8 children, including my 4th great-grandmother John Marshman (1747-????) who married Anne Angel (1749-1795) in 1767 in Lacock, Wiltshire.

What to Expect from FamilySearch in 2024

I received this information from FamilySearch today:

========================================

What to Expect from FamilySearch in 2024

Graphic showing the number 2024, representing what to expect for FamilySearch.org in the new year.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH—FamilySearch International is giving a sneak peek at some of its 2024 plans. Of course, every year brings more free genealogy records to explore and new and improved experiences to help you make more fun family discoveries. Here is a glimpse of some of the things coming at FamilySearch in 2024.

Genealogy Records

FamilySearch will continue to work with record custodians and other organizations around the world to digitize millions more historical records, to preserve them and make them more widely available.

Record digitization efforts will include more than 75 countries in 2024 from every habitable continent and island group—Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania. Peru and Portugal collections should see significant new additions.

In addition, we are always happy to make specialized and high-interest record sets more available. Last year FamilySearch worked in collaboration with Ancestry and the Library and Archives Canada to make the 1931 Canada census freely available to search. FamilySearch.org will add the full 1921 Canada census this year and continue to work on gathering oral genealogies from Africa and other unique record sets and making them available to search.

Speaking of oral genealogies, an updated search experience will be released that will allow you to easily explore the oral genealogies that have already been collected by FamilySearch in over 15 countries in Africa. Users will be able to search by tribe, village, and/or surname and get instant access to the photos, audio recordings, and lineages that were captured during the interviews.

Advances to Computer-Assisted Indexing

In 2024, FamilySearch will continue to improve its computer-assisted indexing algorithms to recognize and index historical genealogical records in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and English. Our handwriting recognition technology, coupled with the help of online volunteers, is making millions of record images text-searchable faster, vastly improving your ability to discover your ancestors worldwide.

Full-text Search

On a related note, FamilySearch has been leveraging its state-of-the-art, AI-powered handwriting recognition technology to also improve its record search experienceWe try to index the most important details of a record to help you find your ancestors. In 2024, we are working to make your search even more powerful by adding full-text search capability to select record sets.

New Volunteer Experiences

New volunteer experiences through FamilySearch's Get Involved initiatives will allow volunteers to more easily assist with reviewing computer-assisted indexes.

Previous enhancements have allowed volunteers to help quickly review indexed names on their mobile phones and work on record sets of personal relevance or interest. The 2024 Get Involved updates will include options that allow patrons to help review all fields in a record, in ways that are easier and more mobile-friendly. (See how your volunteer efforts from past years have helped others here!)

More Digital Books

FamilySearch will add more contributing organizations in 2024 that will continue to expand the number of digital publications added to its free Digital Library. These full-text searchable publications include genealogy books, family histories, local histories, maps, yearbooks, and more.

Better Sharing Capability for Family Groups

The FamilySearch Family Tree, is a free, highly collaborative tree, where any relatives—including cousins, parents, grandparents, and so on, can work together to document their ancestry. To protect privacy, the Family Tree limits visibility of information entered for living relatives.

This year, new updates to family groups on FamilySearch will allow users to share information about living relatives within a group so that family members do not have to re-enter information about shared living relatives. More details will come, but photo-sharing and collaboratively recording family memories and details about living family members will be much easier with this new update.
