Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your Family History Time Capsule

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.

1)  What would you put into your own "Family History Time Capsule" for your descendants to open in the future?  What would you use for the capsule?  Where would you keep it?  Who should open it?

2) Tell us about it in your own blog post, in a comment on this post, or in a Facebook post.  Please leave a link on this post if you write your own blog post.

Here's mine:

*  My list of things I would put into the time capsule (labelled, of course...):

*  My manual typewriter -- how we used to type things up.
*  A fountain pen and inkwell (sealed) -- before ballpoint pens...
*  My slide rule -- how I calculated everything in high school and college
*  my grandfather's pocket watch -- from the 1890s
*  my mother's copper enamel pieces of art
*  my aeronautical vestpocket handbook (from United Technologies) -- useful information about everything aeronautical in the 1970s
*  my Hewlett-Packard HP-45 calculator -- what I used before digital computers
*  our yearly Christmas letters from 1985 until 202? - on paper, DVD or USB flash drive.
*  our labeled digitized family photos  - on a DVD or USB flash drive.
*  my memoirs -- my life and times, probably boring - perhaps my StoryWorth book(s)?
*  a collection of all of the Seaver/Richmond Family Journal issues -- for posterity!
*  my Betty Carringer ancestry book (in paper and in an eBook) -- for posterity!
*  my genealogy family tree database (a software file and a GEDCOM file on a USB drive) -- for posterity, and to see if the USB drive can still be read.
*  my raw DNA data on a DVD or a USB flash drive.
*  Usernames and passwords for my Blogger account, my Ancestry Member Tree account, my MyHeritage account, my Forever account (which includes family photos and digitized home movies), my YouTube account, my Scribd account (ancestor and descendant eBooks), etc.

*  I would use a fairly large metal box (maybe 2 or 3?), seal it with duct tape, and write on it "For my great-grandchild to open when s/he reaches age 12."

*  I'd also stipulate in my will that my daughters are to keep this in a safe and cool place and to open it with her grandchild (if she lives that long) and that they should have a family get-together to talk about great-grandpa Randy's life and family history.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

He was chosen Deputy (Representative) to the Rhode Island General Assembly for Jamestown in 1718. He removed to North Kingstown Township, R. Samuel married Hannah Carr (1691-1785) in January 1708 in Jamestown, Rhode Island[1.3-4].  She was the daughter of Edward and Hannah (Stanton) Carr.  They had at least ten children, the first six were recorded in Jamestown town records[1]:

On 25 August 1721, Samuel's widowed mother, Mary (Thurston) Slocum, gave her thirds of 85 acres of land that was his brother Ebenezer Slocum on the north side[2] (Jamestown Land Evidences, Vol 1, pg. 181).

Also on 25 August 1721, Samuel Slocum, late of Jamestown, blacksmith, sold 45 acres in Jamestown to John Wanton, Nathaniel Coddington, Jonathan Nichols, Edward Thurston, Robert Gardner and William Coddington, trustees of the General Assembly, for £243 13s in good and lawful bills of credit.  The land was bounded by east by Edward Tew's land, south by land in possession of Edward Carr, west by the sea, and north by land in possession of Edward Carr, being 45 acres of land, together with the buildings, fences, and improvements. (Jamestown Land Evidences, Vol 1, pg. 181-2).  Samuel's wife, Hannah Slocum, signed this indenture[2].

Also on 25 August 1721, Samuel Slocum, late of Jamestown, blacksmith, sold a tract of land in in Jamestown to John Wanton, Nathaniel Coddington, Jonathan Nichols, Edward Thurston, Robert Gardner and William Coddington, trustees of the General Assembly, for £200 in good and lawful bills of credit.  The land was bounded north by land in the possession of Edward Carr, east by Richard Tew's land, south by land in possession of Mary Slocum, west by the sea, being 40 acres of land, together with the buildings, fences, and improvements. Samuel Slocum died before 4 April 1741 when his estate was administered in North Kingstown[1].  There is no burial record for Samuel Slocum.
