Best of the Genea-Blogs -- 10 to 16 May 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  10 Types of Apps Every Genealogist Should Have by Diane Haddad on the Genealogy Insider blog.  Nice list!

*  Bring Down Those Brick Walls! by Marian Pierre-Louis on the Legacy News blog.  Marian highlights the value and availability of land and probate records.  Amen!

*  The "When I Was Young" Geneameme Collection by Alona Tester on the LoneTester HQ blog.  Alona compiled the geneameme posts into a compendium.

*  Stopping to Reassess the Situation  and The Smoking Gun by Jacqi Stevens on A Family Tapestry blog.  Jacqi is pondering her research process and results.  Did she find proof that her man used two names?

*  More Unanswered, Unanswerable and Some Answered Questions About Genealogy by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  Interesting and funny questions, few answers.

*  The Expanding Mindset:  A Challenge by Debbie Mieszala on The Advancing Genealogist blog. Debbie suggests expanding your horizons in genealogy education.

*  Newspapers, OCR'd Teasers, and Make-Do Citations by Elizabeth Shown Mills on the Evidence Explained QuickTips blog.  Here's an interesting citation challenge.

*  If They Wrote It, Why Don't All Genealogists Read It?  Helping Ourselves by Paula Stuart-Warren on the Genealogy by Paula blog.  What, it's not all on the Internet now?

*  ManyRoads Mega-Search Engine Development by Mark Rabideau on the ManyRoads blog.  Mark is setting up several genealogy mega-search engine sites.

*  Comparing Admisture Results From AncestryDNA, 23andMe, and FamilyTreeDNA by Debbie Kennett on the Cruwys News blog.  Debbie describes her family origins, which don't match any of the three autosomal DNA test results well.

*  Maintaining Integrity by Dave McDonald on the Thinking Genealogically blog.  Dave discusses family stories trying to sort out who told who when.

*  13 Lessons to Make You a Better Historical Newspaper Researcher by Kenneth R. Marks on The Ancestor Hunt blog.  This is a compendium of 13 blog posts on different aspects of the topic.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  Noteworthy Reads #13 by Jo Henn on the Climbing My Family Tree blog.

*  Friday Finds May 9th - 15th by Nichelle Barra on the Copper Leaf Genealogy blog.

*  This Week's Creme de la Creme -- May 16, 2015 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

*  GAGs - GeniAus Gems - 17 May 2015 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1560 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
