Monday Genea-pourri - 13 August 2018

Here are some of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)   Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society's Research Group meeting on Wednesday with 15 attendees.  In the first hour, I discussed the new New York Births database, the New Jersey Deaths database, finding Los Angeles death certificates on FamilySearch, working with the Henry White deeds, and the SDGS seminar.  In the second hour, the attendees described their research challenges and talked about their successes.

2)  Found and transcribed the will of  7th great-grandmother Susannah (West) Barber (1666-1756) of Charlestown, Rhode Island in the Charlestown Town Council Records
volumes on Family History Library microfilm, and used it for today's Amanuensis Monday post.

3)  Searched for recent Seaver obituaries on GenealogyBank and found 28 so far in 2018.  Added information for about 15 of them to the database, in addition to adding family information from the obituaries.

4)  Took part in the Mondays With Myrt webinar today.  We discussed the Allken County Public Library budget problems, Ireland Townland Valuation records, my David Auble deed on FamilySearch digital microfilm, FamilySearch record access (30% indexed, some browsable, and many only in the FamilySearch Catalog), records not digitized in archives, Catholic church records in NY, NJ, PA and MA, and more.

5)  Watched one webinar at Family Tree Webinars ("Logic and Deduction as Step 3 of the Genealogical Proof Standard" by Shellee Morehead).

6)  Added  3 more charts to the presentation for my project researching the ancestry of a local personality, and will present what I find at the CVGS Family History Day in September with him and his family in attendance.  The presentation is about 75% done now, but will need to be pared down.  I didn't work on this RootsMagic family tree during the week because of higher priorities, and the tree has grown to 527 persons with 1,601 citations.

7)  Added about 50 more charts to my presentation on "Attending a Genealogy Conference" which I will give on 15 August to the SDGS German Interest Group.
The new batch of slides discussed the SCGS Genealogy Jamboree and RootsTech in more detail, along with photographs of conferences.  I need to finish this up!

8) There were several sessions working in RootsMagic to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other database families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 25,094 of my persons with FSFT.  I now have 50,563 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 95,412 source citations.   I TreeShared twice during the last week, but didn't resolve any Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 71,353 waiting to be resolved, but I'm working on them occasionally.

9)  Have 299 Shared Ancestors on my AncestryDNA list (I had 297 last week), 954 4th cousins or closer (I had 948 last week), and 866 pages (over 43,250 matches with at least 6 cM) (was 861 pages last week) of  matches.  I have 23 DNA Circles (was 23 last week).  I have 15 matches that are third cousins or closer, and 102 matches with 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 100 last week).  My highest match has 779 cM (11.5%), and is one of my first cousins.  My ethnicity estimate has not been modified yet.

10)  Have 4,321 DNA Matches on MyHeritage (up from 4,290 last week) with at least 8 cM (0.12%), with 25 matches with more than 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 24 last week).  I have three close relatives, including a first cousin once removed, and two first cousins twice removed.  The highest DNA match is 512 cM (7.1%).

11)  Have 989 DNA Relatives on 23andMe (I had 987 last week) who share at least 0.10% (7 cM) with me.  The two closest relatives are third cousins.  Of these, only 3 share 1.0% or more, and 48 share 0.50% or more (was 47 last week), with the highest match being 1.54%. My highest match is an adoptee.  I struggle to find out anything about most of these testers.

12)  Have 2,741 autosomal DNA Matches on FamilyTreeDNA (up from 2,733 last week) who share 0.25% (18 cM) or more, with the highest match being 96 cM (1.42%).  I have 12 who share at least 1.0% (68 cM) with me, and 1,482 who share at least 0.50% (34 cM) or more (was 1,476 last  week) with me.

13)  Updated my AncestryDNA spreadsheet showing names, shared cM/segments, known common ancestors, and whether they have an Ancestry tree, are on GEDMatch, and known common chromosome segments.

14) Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were press releases.  The most popular post last week was "
Finding David Auble's Land Records in Sussex County, New Jersey" with over 457 views.

15)  Daughter Lori and sons flew down on Saturday to visit until Tuesday, and daughter Tami and family came down on Sunday for lunch and playing at Jump Around with Lori's boys.  We got some family photos (Christmas? :)) taken in front of the house.  All five kids are growing up.  It was fun seeing them individually and together.  We went to the beach today for 3.5 hours - the boys and Lori had fun in the water.
