Best of the Genea-Blogs - 26 August to 1 September 2012

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.
My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Online Resources for Finding Living Relatives - Part 1 by Bill Dollarhide on Leland Meitzler's GenealogyBlog blog.  Bill provides useful tips for finding living relatives.

*  Those Genealogy Police are at it again! by Michael Hait on the Planting the Seeds blog.  You called, Mr. Hait?  Private Seaver calling...

*  Researching the Forbidden by Terri O'Connell on The In-Depth Genealogist blog.  Terri lays out the options for researching sensitive events.

*  Dutch Genealogy - Maybe Not So Hopeless After All by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained - Genetic Genealogy blog.  Roberta blogged about her Dutch brick wall, and Yvette really helped smash it with Dutch resources.  Blogging works!

*  First Day, Day Two, Day Three and Final Day of the FGS Conference in Birmingham Alabama by Sandra Gardner Benward on the Root Cellar Sacramento Genealogical Society blog.  Sandra recounts her FGS experiences this week.

*  FGS 2012 - Arrival Day, Day One, Exploring on My Own, Day Two - Sessions, Day Three by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  Diane share her experiences at FGS this week.

*  FGS 2012 - Day 01 FGS 2012 - Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4 by Jenny Lanctot on the Are My Roots Showing blog.  Jenny shares her days at FGS with us.

*  FGS Day One (Tuesday, August 28): Save the Records!, FGS Day One (Wednesday, August 29), FGS Day Two (Thursday August 30),  FGS Day Three (Friday August 31), and FGS Day Four (Saturday September 1)  by Harold Henderson on the Midwestern Microhistory: A Genealogy Blog.   Here are Harold's experiences at FGS 2012.

*  Using Genealogy Database Programs by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.  Michael comments on Debbie Wayne's comments about using programs, and his own practices.

*  FamilySearch Citation Report Card by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI reviews the progress in source citations being made by FamilySearch.  Great news, I think!

*  The Changing Face of FamilySearch Family Tree by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  This is a list of FamilySearch Family Tree learning resources.

*  Those Latin Administrators by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy discusses the Latin terms, and English terms, used to describe executors and administrators of estates.

*  FamilySearch Bloggers Dinner at FGS2012, Notes from the FGS2012 Plenary Session by Amy Coffin on The We Tree Genealogy Blog.  Amy provides summaries of her FGS experiences.

Several genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week, including:

*  Monday Morning Mentions by Lynn Palermo on The Armchair Genealogist blog.

*  Monday Recap for August 27, 2012 by Amanda on the Geni Blog.

*  Follow Friday - Fab Finds for August 31, 2012 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

*  From the Blogs, August 31 by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.

*  Friday Finds - 08/31/12 by Julie Cahill Tarr on the GenBlog blog.

I encourage readers to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1280 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thanks for the mention, Randy, and thanks SO much for all those links to the FGS blogs! Not quite as good as being there, but as close as I could come this year!
