SCGS Genealogy Jamboree Plans - Friday Events

My plans for the Southern California Genealogical Society 2017 Genealogy Jamboree in Burbank, California have crystallized now, so here are our plans for Friday, 9 June:

We are driving to Jamboree this year because our granddaughter has a school performance on Wednesday night in Huntington Beach, so we are going to spend at least one night in Huntington Beach.

Logically, we would then drive to Burbank on Thursday so we were there on Friday morning, but I couldn't get a hotel room in the Marriott for Thursday night.  We may get a hotel room near Burbank on Thursday night with an easy commute on Friday.

The Friday schedule is at, including the JamboFree morning events at

If we arrive at the Marriott hotel on Friday morning, then I hope to participate in these activities on Friday:

*  10:30 a.m.:  DNA World Round Table

*  11:30 a.m.: Lunch, perhaps at the restaurant or at the vendors in the breezeway.

*  12 noon:  The Exhibit Hall opens

*  1 p.m.  FR004 Too Many Marys: Solving Identity and Same Name Conundrums
Genealogy is the study of identity and relationships. Do you have a brick wall? It is probably an issue of identity. Using case studies, attendees will learn the three types of identity problems and discover strategies for successful resolution to solving their own brick walls. Level: Beg., Int. (Jill Morelli, CGsm)

*  2:30 p.m.:  FR012 Descendancy Research

*  4 p.m.:  FR027 Treasures in Township Records
A part of the rectangular survey system, the township had its beginnings in Europe. Still in use today, we will focus on the many types of records of our ancestors that may be found there. Some records may be found there, and nowhere else. Level: Beg., Int., Adv. (Peggy Clemens Lauritzen, AG®)

*  5:30 p.m.:  FR028 DNA and Genealogy: Experts Discuss Latest Developments
DNA testing experts will discuss the connection between DNA testing and genealogy, what tests are available, and which companies provide which tests. Advances being made in the field of Genetic Genealogy will be examined. Audience questions will be answered in the second half of the program.
Level: Beg., Int., Adv. Moderator: Alice M. Fairhurst, MS, Panelists: Angie Bush, MS; David R. Dowell, PhD; Debbie A. Kennett; Drew Smith, MLS; Diahan Southard

*  6:30 p.m.:  Dinner out, perhaps with friends, since we have a car available!

NOTE:  I may, or may not, attend all of these activities, or some other one.  Change happens.  Opportunity raises its beautiful head.  I will probably need an afternoon nap too.
