Seavers in the News -- Brigadier Florence Seaver Dies in Asbury Park, N.J. in 1964

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Asbury Park [N.J.] Press newspaper dated 6 July 1964:

The transcription of the article is:

"MRS. THOMAS C. SEAVER

"ASBURY PARK -- Mrs. Brigadier Florence Seaver, 91, of 210 5th Ave., the Salvation Army Home, died yesterday.

"Mrs. Seaver was graduated from Salvation Army Training College, London, and was commissioned in 1893.  She and her husband, the late Brigadier Thomas C. Seaver, who died in 1950, retired in 1958 and moved to Ocean Grove.

"Her career included posts as divisional commander in southern New England and Alabama, charge of relief work in New York City during the 30's, and men's social service in Jersey City, her last assignment.

"She was a member of the Salvation Army Retired Officers League and Asbury Park Corps of the Salvation Army.  She was born in Bradford, England.  She had live in the home here 12 years.

"Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lt. Commissioner Faith Carey, London, and Mrs. Brigadier Florence Squibb, New York City; two sons, Brigadier Thomas W. Seaver, Hartford, Conn., and Brigadier Douglas Seaver, Trenton; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

"The Ely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements."

Florence A. Daighton was born in October 1872 in England (which Bradford?) and died 5 July 1964 in Asbury Park, New Jersey.  She married Thomas Charles Patrick Seaver (1873-1950) in 1898.  They had five children:

*  Charles Lincoln Seaver (1898-1908)
*  Thomas W. Seaver (1902-1993), married Frances J. Pike (1911-2003) in 1934.
*  Douglas J. Seaver (1905-1978), married Miriam Helen Goodman (1915-2011).
*  Faith Seaver (1905-2000), married Edward Carey (1906-2001) in about 1930.
*  Florence A. Seaver (1909-2011), married Walter H. Squibb (1904-1985) in 1934.

I recently (early October?) added this Seaver family to my RootsMagic family tree database, and found their extensive Seaver ancestry in Ireland.  I need to find the death record and obituary for Thomas C. Seaver.

I believe that both parents and all of their children were involved in the Salvation Army throughout at least some of their lives.

I am not related to this Seaver line to the best of my knowledge.
