Vauxes in the News -- Edward Vaux Dies in 1941 in Santa Ana, California

 It's time for another edition of "Vauxes in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Vaux (my 2nd great-grandmother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Santa Ana [Calif.] Register newspaper dated 28 July 1941:

The transcription of the article is:

"Edward Vaux Called By Death

Edward Oscar Vaux (1878-1941) was born 12 September 1878 in Lima, Wisconsin, the son of Edward William and Esther Josephine (Melish) Vaux.  He married (1) about 1897 Bertha May Nogle (1880-1970) in South Dakota, and the had two children:

*  Glenn Clayton Vaux (1898-1978), married 1919 Georgia C. Meyers (1899-1985).
*  Harold Walter Vaux (1900-1942), married 1933 Kathryn Esther Thiessen (1907-2002).

Edward married (2) 16 December 1906 in Watertown, South Dakota to Frances "Fanny" Richardson (1884-1982).  They had five children:

*  Florence Estelle Vaux (1906-????), married 1929 Clarence Marvin Vaughan (1903-1974).
*  Alice Marie Vaux (1909-????), married 1934 Jack Donovan Lyons (1908-1965).
*  Herbert Leroy Vaux (1911-1983), married 1937 Doris G. Gurr (1912-1981).
*  Bonnie L. Vaux (1917-????).
*  Shirley L. Vaux (1922-????)

I am a second cousin three times removed to Edward Oscar Vaux (1878-1941), with common ancestors of James Vaux (1787-1839) and Mary Palmer (1790-1845), who migrated from South Petherton, Somerset, England to Erie County, New York in the early 1830s.

There are hundreds of Vaux "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a large family. I am glad that I can honor Edward Oscar Vaux today.

You never know when a descendant, relative or friend will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
