Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Do a Genealogy Software Problem Report

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1)  Have you created a Problem report from your desktop genealogy software program?  Tell us which software you're using, how you found the "Problem Report," and your results using it.

2)  Write your own blog post, or leave a comment on this post, or write something on Facebook.

Here's mine:

I'm using RootsMagic 9 as my default desktop genealogy software program.  The "Problem Search" is 

under  "Tools" on the Main Menu (far left side of the screen).  Clicking the "Run selected tool" button shows the user the many criteria the user can choose from:

I picked a number of "Problem Options" like "Birth Before Parents", "Mother's Death," "Age at Death," and "Age at Marriage."  Some options give too many problems, for instance, "Father's Age."

Here is my "Problem List" after clicking OK:

My Problem List is three pages long.  The screen above shows part of the first page.

I have a lot of profiles where a mother is less than 13 years old, most of which I ignored.  I had two persons older than 110, checked them out and modified them.  I tried to fix the problems that were "born after mother's death" for the obvious reasons; I fixed several that had an erroneous birth date.  I also checked and fixed several other problems on the list that looked like an obvious error.

All in all, I made corrections to about 15 profiles in my RootsMagic family tree database.
