Best of the Genea-Blogs - 20 to 26 September 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  A Guide to Using Social Media for Genealogy by Gena Philibert-Ortega on the GenealogyBank Blog.  Gena reviews social media options and how to use it for genealogy.

*  How They Found the Real Benjamin Kyle by Roberta J. Estes on the DNAeXplained -- Genetic Genealogy blog.  This post explains the Benjamin Kyle identity search.  Read the linked article too.

*  Amazing Weekend of Conferences in Ontario! by Chris Paton on the British GENES Blog.  Chris describes his weekend in Toronto and Ottawa.

*  Thomas MacEntee Interview on Genealogy as a Business, Part 1Part 2; and Part 3  by John D. Reid on the Canada's Anglo-Celtic Connections blog.  John interviewed Thomas while at the BIFSGO conference.

*  Darn! My Genealogy Superhero Didn't Make it on the List, Eh? by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.  I'm with Gail on this one, Lorine is a genealogy superhero!

*  The Search for Helen's Roots -- Part II by Blaine Bettinger on The Genetic Genealogist blog.  Blaine continues his search for his great-grandmother's ancestry using autosomal DNA.

*  My First Genealogical Conference (NYSFHC 2015) by Jo Henn on the Climbing My Family Tree blog.  Sounds like Jo really got a lot out of her first conference.  Hooked?

*  Finding a Record in Early Rhode Island by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  Diane reviews the available records in Rhode Island by record type.

*  Are We Becoming Lazy Researchers? by Brenda Joyce Jerome on the Western Kentucky Genealogy Blog.  Brenda thinks so.

*  15 Ways to Find Ancestor's Death Information and 21 Ways to Find Ancestors Birth Information by Kenneth R. Marks on The Ancestor Hunt blog.  Ken explains the ways.  Nice lists.

*  The New Family History Center is in the Home by James Tanner on the Rejoice and Be Exceeding Glad blog.  What an excellent observation.
