52 Ancestors - Week 128: #157 Mary (Richards) Phillips (1733-after 1790)

Amy Johnson Crow suggested a weekly blog theme of "52 Ancestors" in her blog post Challenge:  52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks on the No Story Too Small blog.  I am extending this theme in 2016 to 156 Ancestors in 156 Weeks. Here is my ancestor biography for week #128:

Mary (Richards) Phillips (1733-after 1790) is #157 on my Ahnentafel list, my 5th great-grandmother, who partnered with #156  Isaac Buck (about 1730-after 1757)  in 1757.

I am descended through:

*  their son, #78 Isaac Buck (1757-1846) who married #79 Martha Phillips (1757-after 1820) in 1780.

*  their daughter,
#39 Sophia Buck (1797-1882), who married #38 Thomas J. Newton (about 1800-after 1836) in about 1834.
*  their #19 Sophia Newton (1834-1923), who married #18, Edward Hildreth (1831-1899) in 1852.
*  their daughter, #9 Hattie Louise Hildreth (1847-1920) , who married #8 Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922) in 1874.
*  their son, #4 Frederick Walton Seaver (1876-1942), who married Alma Bessie Richmond (1882-1962) in 1900.
* their son, #2 Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983), who married #3 Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002) in 1942.
*  their son, #1 Randall J. Seaver (1943-....)

4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

Mary Richards was born 27 September 1733 in Southborough, Massachusetts, the third child of Joseph and Mary (Bowden) Richards.  The record in the Southborough town record book says[1]:

"Born to Joseph Richards & Mary his wife a Daughter Named
Mary Richards: on Sept 27th day in the year ---- 1733"

It is apparent that Mary Richards had a child, Isaac Buck, out-of-wedlock by a man named Isaac Buck, according to the Southborough Town Records[3]:

"Born to Mary Richards, a son named
Isaac Buck reputed by her to be a
son of Isaac Buck on Sepr 27, 1757."

This record is on the same page, and just below, the list of children born to Joseph and Mary Richards, including their daughter Mary in 1733.

Mary Richards, spinster of Southborough, quitclaimed all of the real and personal property she received from her honored father, Joseph Richards, to William Richards, yeoman of Southborough, for £6:13s:4d  lawful money on 25 October 1765.  William Richards was Mary's brother.  The deed was witnessed by John Richards, also her brother, and was recorded on 29 October 1765[4].  This record indicates she was known as Mary Richards and not Mary Buck at that time.

It is very likely that Mary Richards raised her son Isaac Buck as a single parent in Southborough.

Mary Richards married John Phillips on 1 June 1774 in Southborough, Massachusetts.  The Southborough town record book says[5]:

"John Phillips & Mary Richards marrid June 3 1774"

 In 1780, her son Isaac Buck married John Phillips' daughter, Martha Phillips in Lancaster, Massachusetts.

The John Phillips household was recorded in Sterling, Massachusetts in the 1790 United States census, as was the Isaac Buck household.

There is no known death record or known gravestone record for Mary (Richards) Phillips.  It is likely that she died after 1790 and before 1800, probably in Sterling, Massachusetts.

There are no probate records for Mary (Richard) Phillips in Worcester County.
