Thursday, December 14, 2023 Introduces ProTools for an Additional Fee

Crista Cowan of posted this announcement on Facebook yesterday:

"Ancestry customers asked and a half dozen new features have now been delivered!

"Login to your Ancestry account and click on TREES to see a link for the new "tree checker" and "charts and reports." New Ancestry ProTools also include advance filters that allow you to search your tree by location (or any other combination of facts) and a MAP view.

"Follow me on Instagram ( where I will be doing demos of each of the new features over the next couple of days. (Or just sign up for the new tools yourself and play with them.)

"Let me know what questions you've got!

"FAQ 1: Currently in the U.S. only. "

These new Ancestry ProTools cost an additional $9.99 per month.

UPDATE:  At 7 p.m. PST on 14 December, the price point is $14.99.  There are reports of a $19.99 price point too.  For what it's worth, I would subscribe for $1.99 per month.

At this time, the "Tree Checker" and the "Charts and Reports" are available for those that have an Ancestry subscription and pay the additional fee.  The "Advanced Filters" and "Map Views" are not yet available.

You can see more details of each new feature at, but the images are fuzzy.

I am most interested in the "Charts and Reports" feature:

The "Charts and Reports" feature can provide an Ahnentafel, Descendants, Registry and Family Group Sheet reports, presumably for a specific person in your Ancestry Member Tree.

Crista Cowan will be highlighting each new feature in a series of videos on Instagram   ( and probably on the Facebook page.

Connie Knox highlighted these new features on her YouTube channel - see Ancestry New Tools & Updates for December 2023.  Watch Connie's exploration of the "Tree Checker" and "Charts and Reports."

Aimee Cross also highlighted these new features on her YouTube channel - see New Features @ Ancestry but it'll COST YOU (Dec. 2023).

Of course, genealogists and family historians have had much more than the current Ancestry "Charts and Reports" capability since the 1990s with desktop genealogy software like Family Tree Maker, Legacy Family Tree, RootsMagic, and other one-time cost software programs.

Disclosure: I receive a complimentary all-access subscription from, for which I am thankful. has provided material considerations for travel expenses to meetings, and has hosted events and meals that I have attended in Salt Lake City, in past years.

These would have to be very special, powerful, robust tools for me to pay that extra monthly fee. Will see what reviewers say! TY.

Ancestry support just confirmed that pro tools are not extended to every person in the family plan. Each person in the family plan will have to pay the 9.99.

FamilySearch is Free! said...

Once again another money grubbing ploy. I'll stick with Family Search where everything is FREE. Why pay for things such as the Census when it is free. Also DO NOT need to pay extra for Fan Chart features like additional generations.
