Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 18 February 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and conducted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting on Wednesday.  Reported on the RootsTech 2024 schedule, Relatives at RootsTech, the new Ancestry AI feature, Finding Your Roots, Family Tree Maker 2024, and my own work.

2)  Reviewed the new Evidence Explained, 4th Edition book by Elizabeth Shown Mills.  Wow!!

3)  Wrote a 52 Relatives genealogical sketch for my granduncle in Charles Percival Richmond (1880-1911) of Connecticut, Massachusetts and California.

4)  Transcribed the 1879 Will of Alexander T. Seaver (1833-1879) of Jefferson County, Wisconsin for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  This week's famous relative post was for 3rd Cousin 8 Times Removed Josiah Bartlett (1729-1795) of New Hampshire, a Declaration of Independence Signer according to Relative Finder.

6)  Had some genealogy fun on Valentine's Day with Valentine's Day Fun! Create Some Conversation Hearts.

7)  Worked with some of the lines to distant cousins using the "Relatives at RootsTech" app on the website.  I'm up to 21,536 relatives who have registered (I had over 70,000 last year).  Most of them are 8th to 15th cousins, but my #1 cousin is a 1st cousin 1x removed.

8)  AncestryDNA now has 45,347 DNA matches (up 104 from 11 February) with 1935 "close" matches, for me today, with 5 new ThruLines (4 are wrong IMHO).  I added Notes to 5 new Matches.    MyHeritageDNA now has 12,150 DNA matches (up 19 from 11 February) for me, with no new Theories (now have 19).  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 50,604 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 40).

10) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 72,218 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 41), and 146,583 source citations (up 19).  Resolved 545 Ancestry Hints. TreeShared 163 new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 16,248 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

11) Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Introducing Family Tree Maker 2024   with over 1,090 views.  Genea-Musings had about 34,400 page views last week.

12)  Real life:  This is week 206 since COVID restrictions started.   I visited Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  Walked several days on the block and talked to several neighbors.  Went to the Rohr Retired Engineer's lunch on Thursday.  Tami came down on Saturday to visit Linda and I.  My TV got messed up so I had the cable company came and she fixed it.    I finished reading James Patterson's Fifty-Fifty and started Iris Johansen's Sight Unseen. The SDSU Aztec basketball team went 2-0 and they are 20-6 on the season.
