Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 24 November 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending 24 November 2024).

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) DNA Intgerest Group Meeting on Wednesday.  I reported on the new AncestryDNA Sort options, DNA holiday sales, Dana Leeds' new video series, the FamilySearch DNA video, and the Genealogy Assistant.  We also discussed our recent work, questions, successes and challenges.

2)  Watched Top Ten AI Genealogy Breakthroughs of 2024 by Steve Little on Family Tree Webinars, plus several DNA and AI related videos on YouTube.

3)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt on Monday, 18 November.  The panel discussed the Mitch Goldstone's ScanMyPhotos website tools, Hilary's DNA find, my Historical Place Names post, and several other topics.

4)  Transcribed the 1892 Deed of William Lewis Sovereen to James A. Kemp for Land in Middleton Township, Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my 2nd Great-GrandUncle James Hildreth (1817-1892) of Townsend and Lunenburg, Massachusetts for the 52 Relatives theme.

6)  Created a short presentation about "Genealogy And Artificial Intelligence" for the Sunday, 24 November, meeting to the GeneaBloggers Premium webinar.  That went well - lots of examples, and Q&A.

7)  Updated the Artificial Intelligence Compendium by adding links to AI tools, custom prompts, useful webites, useful videos, and useful blog posts.

9)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics about my paternal great-grandmother, Julia E. "Juliet" (White) Richmond (1848-1913) and had Suno.com create a song.  I posted the poem created by Meta AI, the song lyrics created by Claude AI, and the Suno song MP4, in  "Julia's Legacy of Love" -- An Ancestor's Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

10)  Posted Genealogy News Bytes - Week of 13 to 19 November 2024Genealogy Education Bytes - Week of 8 to 20 November 2024, and Best of the Genea-Blogs - 17 to 23 November 2024 to keep readers updated on the genealogy world.

11)  My AncestryDNA now has 47,339 DNA matches (up 54 from 17 November) with 2003 "close" matches today (up 5), with 1 new ThruLines (which was wrong).  I added Notes to 1 Match, and added no new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,032 DNA matches (up 15 from 17 November) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

12)  Created more short narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for ancestors in New England and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their parents, their spouse(s), their children, short evemt notes, and sources.  Also continued editing place names in RootsMagic to reflect historical place names rather than current place names.  There are many more to do!

13)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,169 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 5).  FamilySearch Records has 3,388 record collections (up 0).  FamilySearch Images has over 5.523 billion images (up about 13 million).  Full-Text Search now has 2,105 collections (up 708) with 537.7 million pages (up 143.3 million) transcribed and sourced.  Full-Text Search has 169,221 "+seaver" results (up 28,518).

14)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 73,895 profiles (up 9 from last week) and 147,294 source citations (up 3).

15) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was MyHeritage Introduces LiveMemory™: Bring Your Photos to Life in Video with over 272 views.  Genea-Musings had about 217,000 page views last week and over 945,000 views over the past month.

16)  Real life events:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Attended the Rohr Engineers luncheon on Thursday.  Started reading The Innocent by David Baldacci.
