Calling All Genea-Musings Fans:
It's Saturday Night Again -
Time For Some More Genealogy Fun!!
1) Today's challenge is to answer the question "Who Is the Earliest Ancestor In Your Maternal Family Tree?"
2) Tell us about your earliest maternal ancestor in your family tree on your own blog post, in a comment here, or on your Facebook page. Be sure to leave a link to your report in a comment on this post.
[thank you to Linda Stufflebean for suggesting this topic!]
Here's mine:
The earliest ancestor in my maternal family tree in the RootsMagic program is Ranulf FitzRalf (bef.1295-aft.1343). Here is my ascent from my 19th great-grandfather in my maternal line from WikiTree. The line in WikiTree is the same as my line in RootsMagic.
1. Randy is the son of Betty Virginia (Carringer) Seaver (1919-2002) [confident]
2. Betty is the daughter of Emily Kemp (Auble) Carringer (1899-1977) [confident]
3. Emily is the daughter of Charles Auble (1849-1916) [confident]
4. Charles is the son of Sarah G. (Knapp) Auble (abt.1818-1904) [confident]
5. Sarah is the daughter of Sarah (Cutter) Knapp (1785-1878) [confident]
6. Sarah is the daughter of Tabitha (Fitz Randolph) Cutter (abt.1753-1841) [confident]
7. Tabitha is the daughter of Samuel Fitz Randolph (abt.1730-) [confident]
8. Samuel is the son of Jacob Fitz Randolph (1708-bef.1779) [unknown confidence]
9. Jacob is the son of Samuel Fitz Randolph (1668-1754) [unknown confidence]
10. Samuel is the son of Nathaniel Fitz Randolph (1642-1713) [confident]
11. Nathaniel is the son of Edward Fitz Randolph Jr. (abt.1607-abt.1684) [confident]
12. Edward is the son of Edward (Fitzrandolph) Fitz Randolph (abt.1565-1647) [confident]
13. Edward is the son of Christopher (FitzRandolph) Fitz Randolph (abt.1530-1588) [confident]
14. Christopher is the son of Christopher (FitzRandolph) Fitz Randolph (abt.1495-abt.1574) [confident]
15. Christopher is the son of John (Fitzrandolph) Fitz Randolph (abt.1455-abt.1514) [confident]
16. John is the son of John (Fitzrandolph) Fitz Randolph (abt.1420-1475) [confident]
17. John is the son of Ralph FitzRandall Knt. (abt.1398-1458) [confident]
18. Ralph is the son of John FitzRandall Knt. (abt.1374-1405) [unknown confidence]
19. John is the son of Ranulf FitzJohn (1345-aft.1388) [unknown confidence]
20. Ranulf is the son of John FitzRanulf (abt.1325-bef.1369) [unknown confidence]
21. John is the son of Ranulf FitzRalf (bef.1295-aft.1343) [unknown confidence]
This makes Ranulf FitzRalf the 19th great grandfather of Randy.
A source for the Fitz Randolph line back to Ranulf FitzRalf is shown in:
Frederick Lewis Weis at al, The Magna Charta Sureties, 1215; the Barons Named In the Magna Charta, 1215, and Some of Their Descendants Who Settled in America, 1607-1650 (Baltimore, Md. (Genealogical Pub. Co., 1999)
If the book is correct, I may be able to connect my mother to English Royalty further back in time. There are other books with this information which I don't have access to at this time.
Because I did this, I figured out that my great-grandparents, Charles Auble (1849-1916) and Georgianna Kemp (1868-1952) were cousins - they shared Edward FitzRandolph (1607-1684) as their ancestor - they were 8th cousins 1x removed (I think). Who knew? I never suspected that, but they both had New Jersey roots in the 1600s.
