Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your All-time Favorite Song

It's Saturday Night - time for some Genealogy, and Family History, Fun!

Here is your assignment for the evening - if you wish to participate in the Fun (cue the Mission Impossible music):

1. What is your all-time favorite song? Yep, number 1. It's hard to choose sometimes. If you made your favorite all-time Top 40 music selections, what would be #1?

2. Tell us about it. Why is it a favorite? Do you have special memories attached to this song?

3. Write your own blog post about it, or make a comment on this post or on the Facebook entry.

Here's mine:

I listed some of my favorite all-time songs, mainly from the 1950's and 1960's, in several posts here and here. I never got past 1964, it seems, on my list. That sort of dates me, huh?

From that list, my #1 all-time favorite is from 1961 - I Love How You Love Me by The Paris Sisters. You can hear the song here and read the lyrics here.

Why this song? 1961 was my high school graduation year and I was a hopeless teenage geek (5 foot 6 inches tall, 125 pounds, googly glasses, goofy overbite grin, pimples, butch haircut - you get the picture!). No dates, no girlfriends, no hope...

Like every red-blooded male teen, I yearned for a girlfriend and more, and songs like this really raised my, um, spirit. It took eight more years before I found the love of my life, but it was worth the wait!

I wonder if my daughters and grandchildren will ever find this post and learn a little bit more about my life?

It will be interesting to see the music mix from the bloggers and readers for this SNGF, since we are such a diverse group!

I'll have to pass this week. I could maybe narrow it down to my top 20 but I could never pick just one!

Partially met the challenge this week: http://bit.ly/htTF8 -- fun question, but impossible for me to truly answer.

This is going to be very difficult - to narrow it down, I mean!!! But I'll try. Maybe to FIVE!

I love cueing the "Mission Impossible" music in my head...

Can't choose between classical, opera, pop and jazz. Well, maybe the love duet from La Boheme - the whole thing. I'm always caught crying my eyes out while laughing uproariously about two fatties singing at the top of their lungs while supposedly starving.

Thanks for throwing this idea to us. Compiling my blog entry brought back delightful memories. I haven't had this much fun in weeks.

Great songs. Since we are the same age, I remember them like you. However, I would have to choose 20, there were so many good ones. Thanks for this idea.

Just thought about this one recently. Grew up in the 60's and 70's. Best music ever. Yet, my #1 favorite will never appear on the Hits of the 60's and 70's.
"Bare Necessities" by Phil Harris & Bruce Reitherman. Forget about your worries and your strife. Reminds me to wear my life like a loose garment.

Well, Randy, it's a bit early here for this one, but the only song that has (romantic) 'memories' attached to it for me is "Winter Wonderland".
I'm picking that one for my 'all time favourite' as I'd never be able to pick just one song otherwise. If there was just one it would be a rock n' roll classic though, I'm sure!

Hi Randy, My all-time favorite song is "What I Like About You" by The Romantics. It reminds me of my wedding and its the absolute best song to dance to.

Ah, the Paris Sisters!! I had that record... what a great one to slow-dance to, even when your dance partner's a pillow! Ask me how I know... no, wait, don't ask... LOL!

My post seems like it is much different from the others. http://bit.ly/T89S9

So many different songs, so many different genres. So hard to choose ... but I tried; it's at http://gretabog.blogspot.com/2009/09/sngf-my-favorite-song.html. A good subject, and probably could provide endless fodder for posts on memories.
