It's Always Nice to Make the Newspaper...

I spoke to the North San Diego County Genealogical Society in Carlsbad last Tuesday, and our friend in Oceanside saw the notice in the newspaper (I don't know which paper...) before the meeting.  She cut out the article and sent it to us.

The article says:

"Genealogy blogger to present program

"The Computer Oriented Genealogy Group, sponsored by North San Diego Genealogical Society, will host speaker, genealogy instructor and genealogy blogger Randy Seaver discussing "Using FamilySearch Digital Microfilm to Find Genealogical Records" from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Carlsbad City Council Chambers, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.  He will also present how to find records of one's ancestor(s) in probate, land, tax and other unindexed records in the LDS genealogy site .  Social hour and member sharing begins at 9:15 a.m.  Email p******@cox.net, call (760) yyy-zzzz or visit nsdcgs.org."

I always have a wonderful time at this society - the folks are friendly and knowledgeable and eager to learn.  It's relatively early in the day, so most attendees are alert.  Good snacks, too!  The only problem for me is the traffic - it took 80 minutes to go 43 miles in San Diego morning traffic on I-805 and I-5.  The first 20 miles took 60 minutes.  The last time I went, in June, took 100 minutes to get there.

Our local San Diego societies usually have a significant problem publicizing our meetings - we try to get newspaper coverage, but it rarely happens.  It's a big city.  I'm glad that NSDCGS seems to have an outlet in Carlsbad.
