Elijah P. and Jane (Whittle) McKnew had 11 children, but only the last five are in the census record with their parents.  The first six are Allethia Jane (McKnew) Runnels (1867-1959), Alfred Rodney McKnew (1869-1943), Henry Lee McKnew (1970-1934), Alice Louise (McKnew) Hayes (1872-1959), Lilly M. Elijah Pickrell McKnew and Jane (Whittle) McKnew are my wife's great-grandparents;  her grandmother is Edna Catherine (McKnew) Schaffner (1884-1974), who married Paul Frederick Schaffner (1879-1934) in 1906 in San Francisco.
