I'm posting old family photographs from my collection on Wednesdays, but they won't be wordless posts like others do - I simply am incapable of having a wordless post.
Here is one of the most precious (to me) images from my Seaver/Carringer family collection:
Linda and I traveled to Huntington Beach yesterday to see school presentations featuring our two granddaughters. It was a fun and hectic family history day!
The photograph above is of my granddaughter, Audrey, age 7, with me after she read her four paragraph essay about "My V.I.P." to her first grade classmates. The assignment was to choose a Very Important Person in her life, write a biography, and present it to the class. She chose her grandfather. I was very honored!
Each student typed their essay into a small computer, the teacher proofread the essay, and printed the essay out so the student could read it to the class. The V.I.P. of each student was invited to come to class to hear the essay. Because we were going to be in Huntington Beach on Tuesday to see our other granddaughter, Lauren, participate in the school musical play about California history, the classroom visit to Audrey's class worked out really well schedule-wise.
After the essay, the teacher encouraged students to ask questions. The first one was "Are you Santa Claus?" You know, a white beard, fat and old guy. It fits. I said "No, I'm not Santa. What would you like for Christmas?" The little boy couldn't think of anything, so I said "When you know, please write a letter to Santa at the North Pole." Two students said "I don't have a grandpa" which was sad for everyone. I suggested they talk to their mom and dad to learn about their grandfathers.
I posted images of the V.I.P. biography on my Facebook page - see https://www.facebook.com/Geneaholic and look through my page to 9 June 2015. They may be in my Photos too.
