Best of the Genea-Blogs - 7 to 13 February 2016

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  What I Can’t Find in the US Marriages on FindMyPast by Micheal John Neill on the Rootdig.com blog.  I agree with Michael - we should be able to browse a record collection.

*  Studying the Art of Citation by Angela Packer McGhie on the Adventures in Genealogy Education blog.  Angela reviews element 2 of the Genealogical Proof Standard.

*  Thinking ... About Citations and Road Maps by Elizabeth Shown Mills on the Evidence Explained Quicktips blog.  Good thinking here.

*  Probate Records: Part One by Alicia Crane Williams on the Vita-Brevis blog.  Alicia starts this weekly series with a will.

*  Recommitting to My Own Family History by Amie Bowser Tennant on the My Kith N Kin blog.  Good for Amie!

*   Top Ten Most Romantic Stories From My Family Tree by Heather Wilkinson Rojo on the Nutfield Genealogy blog.  Excellent blogging idea!

*  New Family Tree Maker Future by Tamura Jones on the Modern Software Experience blog.  Tamura interviewed the President of software MacKiev about Family Tree Maker.

*  There's Room for Everyone in Genealogy: RootsTech 2016 Musing by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.  Amy thinks RootsTech looksl ike genealogy.

*  RootsMagic Adds Connections to Ancestry by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.  James summarizes the moves by RootsMagic to connect to Ancestry and Findmypast.

*  New GeneaGem Found: Masonic Membership Cards Online by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.  Linda discovers relatives in this collection.

*  Just Starting Out? Here are Ol' Myrt's Suggestions by Pat Richley-Erickson on the DearMYRTLE Genealogy Blog.  Myrt answers a reader's question.

*  Evolution and Genealogy by Tony Proctor on the Parallax View blog.  Tony discussed many topics from RootsTech 2016, and discusses his experiences.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  My Memorable Monthly Mentions (AKA My Favorite January Blogs) by Jacquie Schattner on the Seeds to Tree blog.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1590 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
