The www.rootsweb.com website page today has:
The text says:
"RootsWeb is currently unavailable as we're experiencing a temporary website outage. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Rest assured, our development and web operations teams are busy fixing the problem. We will publish updates here as we have them. Thank-you for your patience."
Of course, they haven't posted anything since late last week.
I checked several of the pages that I use routinely. Here is the WorldConnect page (http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com):
The bad news is that I could not do any searches in this database. It would never complete a search request.
The Message Boards (http://boards.rootsweb.com) is working - the URL goes to http://boards.ancestry.com):
There is even a message thread for this issue - see http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=14636&p=topics.ancestry.ancsite. I could read the messages, add a new one, and comment. That is good news.
The mailing lists are down, and I know I haven't received any emails from the list for several days.
As Joni Mitchell said, "You don't know what you have 'til it's gone."
UPDATE 1 March 2016: The message on the RootsWeb website now says:
"We're currently experiencing a temporary website outage due to Rootsweb hardware failure. Rest assured, our development and web operations teams are busy working to securely restore the site as quickly as possible. Our initial expectation is to have the site back up and running on or around March 15, 2016. We apologize for the disruption and thank-you for your patience. We will provide other updates here as we have them."

On Feb. 29 Rootsweb posted an update, confirming that the problem is with hardware failure and projecting a site "up and running on or around March 15, 2016."
The Rootsweb Home Page is at
