Treasure Chest Tuesday -- 1909 Death Record for Maria (Beamish) Paul (1827-1909) in San Francisco, Calif.

This week's Tuesday treasure is the 1909 death index record for Maria Paul (1827-1909) in the California Death Index, 1905-1939 record collection:

The death record for Maria Paul is on the right-most of the four columns on this page:

The extracted information is:

Name:  Maria Paul [no middle initial]
Spouse's initial:  [none]
Age:  82 years
County:  90 [San Francisco]
Date of death:  12/9/09 [9 December 1909]
Certificate number:  09-31300

The source citation for this record is:

"California Death Index, 1905-1939," indexed database with digital image, FamilySearch (https://www.FamilySearch.org), column 8402 (image 604 of 870), Maria Paul entry, 1909; citing certificate 09-31300, original records created by State of California Department of Health Services, Vital Statistics Department, Sacramento CA.

This record provides the death date for Maria (Beamish) Paul, and says she was age 82 when she died in December 1909.  A birth year of 1827 is consistent with her birth month and year in the 1900 U.S. Census of August 1827.

I should order a death certificate from the San Francisco County Recorder's office or from the California Department of Health Services for a fee, but I have not done so.  A death certificate might indicate Maria birth date and birth place, and her parents names (I only know Thomas and Catherine (--?--) Beamish at this time), and perhaps her cause of death and where she was residing at the time of her death.

John Charles and Maria T. (Beamish) Paul are Linda's second great-grandparents through their daughter, Mary Ann Paul (1854-1908) who married Herman Schaffner (1854-1921) in about 1876.

Just wanted to thank you for decoding the column headers in the death records pages. I'm using Ancestry.com and they are illegible. So I searched for images on Google using "California Death Records to 1939" hoping to find a clear copy. I didn't, but I found that you had typed in the headers before the image. Much gratitude. Such luck!
