Best of the Genea-Blogs - 30 July to 5 August 2017

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Whence the DNA Differences? by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.

*  QuickLesson 25: ARKs, PALs, Paths & Waypoints (Citing Online Providers of Digital Images) by Elizabeth Shown Mills on the Evidence Explained blog.

*  The Strange Ways of Cousin Bait by Jacqi Stevens on A Family Tapestry blog.

*  How to Safely Display Family Photos and Documents by Denise Levenick on The Family Curator blog.

*  Five Fun Summer Projects For Genealogists by Lisa Alzo on the Legacy News blog.

*  Become an Expert by Alicia Crane Williams on the Vita Brevis blog.

*  Too Many Genea-Software Programs! How to Choose? Part 1; Part 2;  by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

*  5 Expert Tips for Using Meyers Gazetteer for Your German Genealogy by Jim Beidler on Lisa Louise Cooke’s Genealogy Gems blog.

*  How to Use Ancestry's Hints Without Going Crazy by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.

*  The International German Genealogy Conference -- Report by Kathy Holland on Kathy's Gates to the Past blog.

*  How They Do It:  Melissa Barker by Janine Adams on the Organize Your Family History blog.

*  MyHeritage Acquires Legacy Family Tree: Is This Good for the Genealogy Industry? Good for Genealogists? by Thomas MacEntee on the Abundant Genealogy blog.

*  Tip: User the Terrain View on Google Maps by Christine Manczuk on the Ancestry Island blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1600 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thank you, Randy, for the double mention on your list this week. Also, thanks for a fun topic on SNGF this week.
