Seavers in the News -- Margaret (Seaver) Fitzgerald Dies in 1948 in Atlantic City

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Philadelphia [Penn.} Inquirer newspaper dated Tuesday, 7 September 1948:

The transcription of this obituary is:

"Mrs. Robert Fitzgerald

"Mrs. Margaret T. Fitzgerald, of 1700 S. 2d st., died yesterday in Atlantic city Hospital, Atlantic City, after suffering a stroke and heart attack there Sunday night.  She was 51.

"Mrs. Fitzgerald went to the shore resort on Friday.  She was a member of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Surviving are her husband, Robert; a son, by a previous marriage, Paul J. Murray; a granson, Paul; five brothers, Francis, John, James, William and Joseph Seaver, and three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Tarvis, Mrs. Mary Bowen, and Mrs. Gertrude Scanlon.

"Solemn Requiem Mass will be sung at 10 A.M., Thursday, at the Sacred Heart Church, 3d and Reed sts.  Burial will be in St. Dennis' Cemetery."

The source citation for this obituary is:

"Mrs. Robert FitzgeraldPhiladelphia [Penn.] Inquirer newspaper, Tuesday, 7 September 1948, page 18, column 6, Mrs. Robert Fitzgerald obituary; digital image, Newspapers.com   (www.newspapers.com :  accessed 26 July 2018).

I searched my RootsMagic family tree database for a Margaret Seaver born in about 1897 with eight siblings, and did not find her.  So I searched on Ancestry for her and easily found the John L. Seaver family (indexed as "Scaver") with all of the children in Philadelphia in the 1910 U.S. Census.

This is an excellent example of how an obituary for a married Seaver person can provide information about a family of interest.  There is information for a spouse, a son, a grandson, and eight siblings, plus the married names of three sisters.

Why weren't they in my RootsMagic database?  Well, the parents were immigrants from Ireland.  So I'm in the process of adding them to the database, since i'm trying to capture all of the Seavers I can.

I am not related to this Seaver family.

I truly appreciate you posting this! This woman was my great grandmother. When I showed my mother this, she was so moved. She burst into tears. Thank you again for finding it.
