Monday Genea-Pourri - 3 December 2018

Here are some of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Presented my "Discovering George W. Seaver's Life Story" talk at the North San Diego County Genealogical Society (NSDCGS) in Carlsbad on Tuesday to about 60 attendees.  I added some slides about descendancy research at the beginning.  This is a fun group of people, and it was good to see old friends again.  The problem with it is that it takes about 90 minutes to go 43 miles at 8 in the morning in stop-and-go San Diego traffic.

2)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) yearly show and tell program and Board of Directors election meeting.  We had ten members show or describe their oldest antiques, ranging from furniture to small dolls, to the 25 members in attendance.  I did not take anything because I could not find some of my oldest antiques - they're buried in my piles in the genea-cave, I think.

3)  Transcribed another deed for Amanuensis Monday - 1824 Deed of Samuel Stone Jr. to Zachariah Hildreth  in Townsend, Mass.  I need to download several more of these deeds from the 1835 to 1859 time frame.

4)  Found one new group of Seever persons hiding in online databases and online trees.  Added several generations adding content and sources.
I found the group by randomly searching for Seaver persons on Ancestry and found this large group.  I'm not done with it - I have TreeShared everyone in RootsMagic, but still have siblings of the oldest generations to find.

5)  Watched
Legacy 9 Unlocked (part 8): The Smoking Gun on FamilyTreeWebinars, plus several YouTube videos.

6)  Participated in today's Mondays with Myrt webinar.  The panel discussed obtaining tickets to The GENEALOGY SHOW in Birmingham and long distance air travel, the value of Deed research (my William Champlin and Zachariah Hildreth blog posts), the new UK TV show "My Family Secrets Revealed," Pat's find of a newspaper record to document a marriage, the Kodak mini-photo printer and Nixplay photo sharing display, DearMyrtle'
s YouTube video on RootsMagic media, Tribal Pages family trees, and what we plan to do so that our work is retained for posterity.

7) There were several sessions working in RootsMagic to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other database families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 27,705 of my persons with FSFT.  I continue to use Web Hints from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 51,417 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 98,407 source citations.   I TreeShared four times during the last week (about 300 profiles), and resolved about 500 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 85,874 waiting to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

8)  Have 311 Shared Ancestors on my AncestryDNA list (I had 309 last week), 1031 4th cousins or closer (I had 1022 last week), and 929 pages (over 46,400 matches with at least 6 cM) (was 925 pages last week) of  matches.  I have 23 DNA Circles (was 23 last week).  I have 17 matches that are third cousins or closer (was 16 last week), and 104 matches with 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 104 last week).  My highest match has 779 cM (11.5%), and is one of my known first cousins.

9)  Have 5,140 DNA Matches on MyHeritage (up from 5,074 last week) with at least 8 cM (0.12%), with 35 matches with more than 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 35 last week).  I have three close relatives, including a first cousin once removed, and two first cousins twice removed.  The highest DNA match is 512 cM (7.1%).  Added Notes to about 15 matches this past week.

10)  Have 1,013 DNA Relatives on 23andMe (I had 1007 last week) who share at least 0.10% (7 cM) with me.  The two closest relatives are third cousins.  Of these, only 3 share 1.0% or more, and 53 share 0.50% or more (was 51 last week), with the highest match being 1.54%. My highest match is an adoptee.  I struggle to find out anything about most of these testers.

11)  Have 2,867 autosomal DNA Matches on FamilyTreeDNA (up from 2,862 last week) who share 0.25% (18 cM) or more, with the highest match being 96 cM (1.42%).  I have 12 who share at least 1.0% (68 cM) with me, and 1,542 who share at least 0.50% (34 cM) or more (was 1,537 last  week) with me.

12) Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were press releases.  The most popular post last week was
All MyHeritage LIVE! 2018 Classes Available on Family Tree Webinars Site for FREE with over 230 views.  Wrote three Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blogs, and copied 1.2 gb of CVGS data to Google Drive.
