Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 15 September 2019

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting  with 13 in attendance.  I discussed the MyHeritage Live 2019 videos and the BCG webinar videos on Family Tree Webinars, RootsMagic Version 8, the NGS/FGS merger, free and updatable online family trees, and my Sophia Newton birth date and parentage challenge.  The attendees discussed their research challenges and successes.

2)  Presented "Genetic Genealogy and DNA Testing" at Santee Library as part of the OASIS programs with 35 in attendance.  I reviewed the science (hopefully in laymen's terms), and the ethnicity estimates and DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA, 23andMe and Living DNA, plus the analysis capabilities at GEDmatch, Genetic Affairs and DNA Painter.
.
3)  Watched the Sunday Genealogy and DNA tracks livestream at the MyHeritage Live 2019 Conference in Amsterdam.  I still haven't seen the Saturday Genealogy track.  These are off the MyHeritage website and their Facebook page now - hopefully, they will be on Family Tree Webinars soon.  Watched the Elizabeth Shown Mills webinar on Reasonably Exhausting Proof, the First Criteria for Genealogical Proof.  Can I say "WOW!?"

4)  Was a panelist on today's Mondays With Myrt.  The panel discussed Pat K's McCarry postcards received from Ireland, the 1923-1964 book copyrights, and the CZUR scanner, Judy Rusell's blog post about genealogy fiction, Graham's RootsTech London guide, the new PRONI Records, Kathryn Hogan's Canada course and webinars, Pat's post on paying speakers, and society technology use.

5)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandfather #506 John Kinnan (1732-1784) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

7) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 32,619 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

8)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.
I now have 54,735 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 109,243 source citations.   I TreeShared twice this week updating 245 profiles, and I resolved 447 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 115,546 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

9) Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was
Randy's Autosomal DNA Test and Analysis Summary - 11 September 2019 with over 223 views.
