SDGS Program Meeting on Saturday, 8 February Features Laurice Johnson

The next program meeting of the San Diego Genealogical Society is Saturday, 8 February, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church (8350 Lake Murray Blvd, San Diego CA 92119).

The program speaker will be Laurice Johnson.

Laurice's two presentations will be:

*  Session 1:  Facebook, and Websites and Books! OH, MY!

*  Session 2:   Family Search - Making the Most Out of Your Search Through MILLLIONS of Pages of Records

Laurice Johnson grew up in a family that loved talking about ‘the folks’ around the dinner table. At her grandmother’s dinner table she heard lots of stories about her ancestors. She knew all about her great grandparents and THEIR grandparents. Her parents actively researched their family history for many years. After her son was born and she was filling out the family tree in his baby book, she asked her husband what his grandmother’s name was. Imagine her surprise when he responded “Grandma Schutt” – and knew nothing else about her. That was thirty years ago and she has been actively researching since then – not only her own families, but also many others. Laurice has been an active member of the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society since its inception and lives in Menifee.

At 9 a.m. in the upstairs classrooms, there will be two classes:

*  SDGS Orientation -  with Patti Francisco.  This class is designed for all who want to know more about the San Diego Genealogical Society- its people and its programs. We will discuss the history of the society, its officers, the monthly meetings, bi-annual seminars, the education staff, research trips, local resources and more. The session will conclude with a live demonstration of using the website. Bring your laptop.

*  Ancestry - with Diane Gould Hall.  Ancestry is one of the most popular genealogy websites containing billions of historical records. This class will take you through the basic features which help you search for your family ancestors. We will show you how to create your own family tree  and search for common ancestors in the trees of other Ancestry members

Attendees need to reserve their spots at sdgsclasses@gmail.com because seating is limited.

Please park in the main church parking lot, in the Jackson Drive parking lot, or on the street.  Please do NOT park in the neighboring strip mall. Thank you in advance!
