Tombstone Tuesday -- Gravestone of Simon Gates (1739-1803) in Gardner, Massachusetts

I have collected a number of gravestone photographs from Find A Grave over many years, and thought I would share them one at a time for Tombstone Tuesday.

Here is the gravestone of my 5th great-grandfather, Simon Gates (1739-1803), in the Old Burying Ground in Gardner, Massachusetts:

The inscription says:

ERECTED
in memory of Mr.
SIMON GATES
who died March 11th
1803 in the 64th
Year of his age.

My friends, for me, pray do not weep,
I am not dead, but here do sleep.
And here, indeed, I must remain,
Till Christ shall raise me up again.

My thanks to Paul Trembley for creating the Find A Grave memorial, and to Marc Brouillette for providing the photograph for the memorial.  The source citation for this memorial is:

Find a Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com : accessed 04 May 2020), memorial page for Simon Gates (1740–11 Mar 1803), Find a Grave Memorial no. 32398033, citing Old Burying Ground, Gardner, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA; Maintained by Paul Trembley (contributor 46992570), photograph provided by Marc Brouillette.

A biographical sketch for Simon Gates is in 52 Ancestors - Week 109: #132 Simon Gates (1739-1803).
