Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 20 July 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA interest Group meeting on Wednesday in a Zoom meeting, with 13 attendees.  We discussed the AncestryDNA changes coming, and how to save the 6-7 cM matches, especially if they show a Common Ancestor.  We also talked the Paul Chiddicks blog post about his discovery using DNA, and about creating Quick and Dirty trees for DNA matches that provide a few ancestral names.  Here is a photo of my colleague's iPad (I forgot to make a screen shot this week - thank you, PDG!):

2)  Watched the San Diego Genealogical Society SIG Zoom meeting on Saturday, with two talks by Jeanette Shiel on Maps and Tax Records.

3)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar -- Connecting the Dots – Introduction to AutoClusters at MyHertiage DNA, by Paul Woodbury.

4)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandmother #549 Melatiah Clarke  (1674-1747) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

6)  Added 4 AncestryDNA ThruLines to my RootsMagic tree, and added Notes to 29 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Ancestry added 72 new DNA Matches this past week.  Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

7) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 36,616 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 48).

8)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 58,312 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 45), and 124.568 source citations (up 439).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times this week updating 201 profiles, and I resolved 1,313 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 131,806 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

9)  Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was AncestryDNA Changes Coming Soon - What I'm Doing - Updated with over 1,559 views.

10)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Tuesday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  Church is closed again so we watched the YouTube video.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating, sleeping and a little yard work, plus reading the free mystery books I downloaded while watching TV.
