Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 21 September 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom with 14 in attendance.  We discussed the AncestryDNA ethnicity estimates, the removal of the 6 to 8 cM AncestryDNA matches, and how I check my AncestryDNA matches daily, looking for new common ancestors and new close relatives.  In the second hour, we discussed attendee issues like access to DNA results if a parent dies, 23andMe matches, and MyHeritageDNA issues.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society seminar in a Zoom webinar with Thomas W. Jones on Saturday.  I enjoyed Tom's four presentations, and had fun chatting with other attendees during the talks.

3)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt today.  We discussed the Jones "Source Snobbery" article, the SDGS seminar, NGSQ articles, Tom's books, DNA uncertainty, a Quebec census indexing anomaly, standardized dates and historical calendars, RootsFinder and Genealogia, and Myrt's Journal videos.

4)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar -- Your DNA questions answered live with Diahan by Diahan Southard.

5)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandfather #558 Thomas Boyden (1682-1770) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

6)  Transcribed the 1733 Inventories for the estate of Jonathan Boyden (1652-1732) of Medfield, Mass.  for Amanuensis Monday.  The real estate totaled £213, and was awarded to a son who paid money to his siblings..

7)  Added two AncestryDNA ThruLines to my RootsMagic tree, and added Notes to 21 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Ancestry added 47 new DNA matches this past week.  MyHeritage added 29 new DNA matches.    Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 37,521 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 26).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 58,990 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 30), and 126,365 source citations (up 180).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree twice this week updating 216 profiles, and I resolved 796 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 134,547 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which four were press releases.  The most popular post last week was FamilySearch and Partners Digitize Mayflower Descendant Records with over 398 views.

11)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday, and it wasn't too busy.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating, sleeping and a little yard work, watching the Padres games, and finished the Catherine Coulter mystery book.  My Padres are now 34-20 and are in the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
