Seavers in the News -- Theron Seaver Dies in 1945 in Hartford Conn.

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the [Meriden CT] Daily Journal newspaper dated 2 February 1945:

The transcription of the article is:

"Theron Seaver

"Theron Seaver, 58, brother of Mrs. George Reiger of Marion, died at the Hartford Municipal Hospital on Wednesday.  Besides Mrs. Reiger, he is survived by two other sisters, Mrs. Robert Johnson of Watertown and Mrs. William Gibbs, Waterbury.  The funeral was held this afternoon, with services at the Gould funeral home.  Burial will be in Quinnipiac Cemetery, Plantsville, at convenience of the family."

The source citation is:

""Theron Seaver,[Meriden, Conn.] Daily Journal newspaper, obituary, Friday, 2 February 1945, page 2, column 3, Theron Seaver obituary;  Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 10 December 2020).

This obituary provides the name, age, implied death date and place, a burial place, and the names of three married sisters. It does not provide a birth date, an occupation, work history, community activities, a spouse or children names.

Theron James Seaver (1887-1945) was born 12 April 1887 in Franklin county, New York, the son of William Eugene and Ella Sophia (Webb) Seaver.  He had four sisters - Erma G. (Seaver) Cashman (11878-1926); Lola B. (Seaver) Reiger (1880-1958); Huldah J. (Seaver) Johnson (1894-1979); and Henrietta Ida (Seaver) Gibbs (1897-1983).

Theron Seaver married (1) Florence E. Baer (1889-????) in Waterbury in 1907, and (2) Mae A. --?-- (1896-????) before 1920.  There are no known children by either marriage.  A 1907 marriage announcement in the Waterbury newspaper in Waterbury, Conn. is the only record that provides Florence's name.  The 1920 census is the only one that mentions Mae's name, also in Waterbury.  I cannot find Theron Seaver in the 1930 or 1940 census.  In 1923, Theron and Mae were listed in an Oklahoma city directory.  There are pictures attached to Ancestry Member Trees of Theron with his sisters and Theron with Mae in undated photos.

I am a 4th cousin 3 times removed to Theron Seaver, with the common ancestors being my 6th great-grandparents Robert and Eunice (Rayment) Seaver of Sudbury and Westminster, Mass.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person dies  at a relatively young age, and leaves relatively little information about his life. I am glad that I can honor Theron Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
