Carringers in the News -- Margaret Carringer Dies in 1960 in Canton, Ohio

It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Republic [Meyersville, Penn.] newspaper dated 4 February 1960:

The transcription of this article is:

"MARGARET CARRINGER
"Mrs. Margaret Carringer, died in Canton, Ohio, Jan. 25.  She was born in Fairhope Township, Somerset County Feb. 27, 1887, a daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Kammerer.

"She is survived by three daughters.  Dorothy, Margaret and Helen, all at home.

"Funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 27.  Mr. and Mrs. Eber Cockley, the latter a niece, attended the funeral."

The source citation is:

"Margaret Carringer," The Republic [Meyersville, Penn.] newspaper, obituary, Thursday, 4 February 1960, page 5, column 1, Margaret Carringer obituary;  Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 21 June 2021).

This obituary provides a death date and place, a birth date and place, parents names, and the names of her children, but nothing about her occupation, religion or associations.

Margaret E. (Kammerer) Carringer was born 27 February 1887 in Fairhope Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (--?--) Kasmmerer.  She married James Clare Carringer (1880-1934) on 20 May 1920 in Lake County, Ohio.  He was the son of Hudson E. and Jennie E (Skiff) Carringer.  James Clare and Margaret E. (Kammerer) Carringer had three children:

*  Dorothy E. Carringer (1917-2008).
*  Margaret Claire Carringer (1921-1982).
*  Helen L. Carringer (1923-1982).

I am a third cousin two times removed to James Clare Carringer.  Our common ancestors are my 4th great-grandparents Martin Carringer (1758-1835) and Maria Magdalena Hoax (1768-1851).

There are hundreds of Carringer "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an obituary with family information but no other information.  I am glad that I can honor Margaret E. (Kammerer) Carringer today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
