Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 7 June 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board Meeting in a Zoom Meeting last Wednesday.  Reported on the Research Group, DNA Interest Group and newsletter status.

2)  Wrote, edited and emailed the June 2021 issue of the CVGS Family History Gazette newsletter:
3)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting, hosted by Colin Whitney.  He presented a summary of Genetic Affairs.

4)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt webinar, and we mainly discussed genealogy software and the new GEDCOM 7.0 standard.  We also discussed Pat's Philly photos and stoops, the Family Historian research tools, post-grad genealogy courses, citation models, the Call Me John book, photo labels and more.

5)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of my 7th great-grandfather #598 Joseph Farwell  (1670-1740) of Chelmsford and Groton, Massachusetts  for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

7)  AncestryDNA added 75 new DNA matches this past week, with 1 new ThruLines, and  MyHeritage added 20 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on  AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  Added Notes to 2 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors, and added 2 ThruLines to RootsMagic.

8)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 42,498 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 99).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 63,624 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 120), and 138,672 source citations (up 456).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree twice this week updating 249 profiles, and I resolved 1,269 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 151,244 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which three were press releases.  The most viewed post last week was  Dear Randy: What Are the Most Useful Online Record Collections For Your Research? with over 377 views.

11)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 64 of COVID-19 isolation.  The Padres season continues, and they are now 36-25 (2-5 the past week).  We watched the 7 games on TV, and now have tickets for 11 more games in-person.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  I went to the dentist on Tuesday and the bridge had not come in, so today I should get my new teeth.  We watched grandson Lucas's high school graduation online.  We went to indoor church on Sunday and sat in the vaccinated and maskless section.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, and a little yard work.
