Carringers in the News -- Alene Carringer and Free Jamison Marry in 1937 in Maryland

It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Record-Argus [Greenville, Penn.] newspaper dated 3 July 1937:

The transcription of this article is:

"Jamison-Carringer
"Miss Alene Carringer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Carringer of Jamestown, and Free Jamison, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Jamison of South Shenango township, were married in a quiet ceremony at Cumberland, Md., on Wednesday, afternoon, June 30.

"The ring ceremony was used by the officiating clergyman, the Rev. Mr. Eisenberger, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Cumberland.

"The bride graduated from Jamestown high school in 1928.  Mr. Jamison graduated from the Jamestown school, Thiel College and the University of Pittsburgh.  He is a member of the faculty of the Overbrook Junior High school in Pittsburgh.

"They will make their home in Pittsburgh."

This marriage article provides the names of the bride and groom, the bride's parents names, the wedding location, and the education and employment of the two parties.

Herman Free Jamison was born 24 March 1905 in Shenango, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and died 4 July 1978 in Santa Clara, County, California.  He was the son of Ross Clark and Minnie alma (Dickey) Jamison.  Mary Alene Carringer was born on 20 January 1911 in Shenango, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and died 23 January 1995 in Santa Clara County, California.  She was the daughter of Emmett Roscoe and Ellen Mabel (Moreland) Carringer.  Free Jamison and Alene Carringer married 30 June 1937 in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland.  They had two children.

I am a 3rd cousin twice removed to Mary Alene (Carringer) Jamison.  Our common ancestors are my 4th great-grandparents Martin Carringer (1758-1835) and Maria Magdalena Hoax (1768-1851).

There are hundreds of Carringer "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a newspaper article tells us something about a cousin's education.  I am glad that I can honor Mary Alene Carringer today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
