Seavers in the News -- Robert D. Seaver Dies in 1965 in Poughkeepsie, New York

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Poughkeepsie {N.Y.] Journal newspaper dated 2 April 1965, page 38:

The transcription of the article is:

"Robert D. Seaver, 50, Operated Insecticide Firm

This obituary identifies his death date and place, parents names, birth date and place, occupation and accomplishments, associations, and living family members,

Robert Devereaux Seaver was born 7 May 1914 in New Jersey, the son of Henry Blanchard and Bertha Ray (Thackeray) Seaver.  He married (1) Mary Emily Voigt on 21 September 1940 in Haddonfield, New Jersey.  He married (2) Marjorie Thurston before 1965.

He had two children, Priscilla and Thomas, probably by his first wife, since they are both in college in 1965.  I found no birth records for the children, or a death or divorce record for the first wife, and no marriage record for the second wife.  The 1950 U.S. census record for Robert D. Seaver shows him married to a Margaret Seaver.  Before this time, I had no information for the family members of Robert Devereaux Seaver.

Robert Devereaux Seaver (1914-1965) is a 9th cousin 1 time removed of mine.  Our most recent common Seaver ancestor is my 9th great-grandfather Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an interesting career and associations.  I am glad that I can honor Robert Devereaux Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
