Here's mine:

1.  One Thanksgiving tradition I have is:  As a youth, the really fun thing was, after we had eaten the traditional turkey, stuffing, potatoes, yams and peas (all but some peas usually), to take the peas on our plate and throw them into a wine glass or cup across the table.  My mother hated that tradition!  My father and my brothers and I loved it - any game was fun for us.  

Another is watching the football games with my parents with everyone kibitzing and trying to guess what play was coming.  I still watch the football games and now I get a turkey frozen dinner to eat, plus ice cream.  

2.  Black Friday:  is the day after Thanksgiving and I avoid going shopping.  I may do a lot of genealogy research that day.  And watch more football.

3.  The best part of Thanksgiving Day was:  when I was young, seeing my grandparents and my father's cousin's family here in San Diego.  The cousin subscribed to National Geographic, so I always read the latest one and asked to take the maps home with me.  After the girls had left the nest, we often shared the holiday with friends, visited our girls' families, or invited friends to go out to dinner with us.  This way there were no dried out turkey leftovers.  Unfortunately, we didn't go the last two years - COVID and now Linda is in a care facility.  

4.  One Thanksgiving (I think 2012), we were going to have the girls and grandkids over for dinner to keep the traditions going.  The week before, Linda bought a 13 pound turkey and put it in the freezer.  Several days before the big day, she got up early and wanted to take it out of the freezer to thaw it out.  Well, her hands slipped, and the turkey (about the size and heft of a bowling ball) dropped on her right foot, breaking a toe and damaging two other toes.  

She managed to wake me up by yelling (it was like 6 a.m.) and I got up and treated her toe, got Mr. Butterball back in the fridge, and cleaned up the blood prints on the floor.  It was pretty obvious that the toe was broken, so we went to the E.R. and they treated it and gave her pain meds and sent her home.  

Our daughter, Tami, stepped in as the cook on Thanksgiving Day and we had a great time.  Linda had little stress that day.  After that, we decided our new tradition would be to go out to Thanksgiving dinner.
