Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 9 July 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Board Meeting on Wednesday and reported on the Research Group, DNA Group and the Newsletter.  Wrote, edited and published the July 2023 edition of the CVGS Family History Gazette newsletter.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society program meeting with speaker Rebecca Koford.  She presented "Land Records : Rich Resources for Relationships" and "Indirect Evidence: Finding What Was Not Written."

3)  Continued tagging, enhancing/colorizing, and captioning scanned photos on MyHeritage Photos, then renaming and saving them to my desktop computer photo files.

4)  Finished scanning my Aunt Gerry's 37 page typed (yes, on a typewriter only) autobiography using the free TextScanner mobile app.  Proofread the entire thing.  Now on to my Uncle Ed's 15 page memories transcribed from an audio tape.

5)  Found more "goodies" in the boxes on the floor - family letters, more photos, my school report cards, several school yearbooks, and more.  Photographed, renamed and saved selected pages using Reimagine and CamScanner.

6)  Wrote one more StoryWorth sketch about travel experiences.

7)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for  7th great-grandmother #881 Elizabeth (Ambrose) (Underhill) Batchelder (1698-????) of Salisbury, Massachusetts and Chester, New Hampshire for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 487 of these sketches for my ancestors.

8)  Transcribed the two page 1894 Will and Two Codicils of Hannah Seaver (1813-1905) of Enfield, New Hampshire for the Amanuensis Monday series.

9)  AncestryDNA now has 43,548 DNA matches (up 16 from 2 July) for me today, with one new ThruLines.   I added one Note to my new matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,507 DNA matches (up 14 from 2 July) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

10)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,588 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 5).

11) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,149 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 12), and 146,084  source citations (up 11). I TreeShared 59 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 176 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 177,903 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

12) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Rabbit Holes With Randy -- Finding My School Stuff! Thank You, Dad! with over 111 views.  Genea-Musings had about 69.500 page views last week.

13)  Real life:  This is week 174 since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  I'm still sorting out stuff from the closet and the genealogy cave - save, toss or donate.  Walked every day on the block and talked to several neighbors.  Chopped down branches from one of the side yard bushes.  Finished reading the Jonathan Kellerman book Serpentine, and started the C.J. Box book Dark Sky. The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 43-47 so far (5-1 this past week) and mired in fourth place in the NL West division.
