Seavers in the News -- 1976 Obituary of Douglas Seaver (1900-1976) of Davenport, Iowa

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Quad-City [Iowa] Times newspaper dated 12 February 1976, page 8:

The transcription of the article is:

"Douglas Seaver

"Services for Douglas B. Seaver, 75, of the Mississippi Hotel, Davenport, will be 8:30 a.m. Friday at Knox-Larson Chapel, Rock Island.  Burial will be in National Cemetery Rock Island Arsenal.

"Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

"Mr. Seaver died Tuesday at the hotel.

"He was a budget analyst at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1964 after 25 years.

"Mr. Seaver was born in Rock Island, where he married Wilma Curtis in 1922.  She died in 1971.  He moved to Minnesota in 1909, to Rock Island in 1919, to near Milan in 1942 and to Davenport in 1973.

"He was an Army veteran of World War I.

"Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John V. Moorhead, Louisville, Ky.;  son, William D., Rock Island, and four grandchildren."

This obituary provides the name, residence, age, birthplace, church affiliation, occupation and employer, funeral and burial information, and spouse's name and children names and locations..  It does not provide age, birth date, parents, education, associations or cause of death.

Douglas Bendle Seaver (1900-1976) was born 30 July 1900 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Jacob Allen and Anna Clarke (Bendle) Seaver.  He died 10 February 1976.  Douglas married Wilma Dorothy Curtis (1902-1971) on 30 November 1922 in Rock Island, Illinois.  They had two children:

*  Dorothy Jane Seaver (1924-2019), married 1945 John Vincent Moorhead (1922-2001).

*  William Douglas Seaver (1927-????), married 1955 Mary Ann Katalinich (1926-????).

I am not a Seaver cousin to Douglas Bendle Seaver.  He is descended from Henry and Elizabeth (--?--) Seaver of Virginia in the 1700s.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an obituary that provides a lot of information in a small space  I am glad that I can honor Douglas Bendle Seaver today.  

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
