Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 29 September 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) General Meeting on Wednesday.  Annette Burke Lyttle presented "Correlating Evidence: A Powerful Tool for Solving Genealogical Problems."

2)  Watched two Family Tree Webinars this past week.  They were "Finding Origins & Birth Families: Methods That Work" by Elizabeth Shown Mills, and "Broken Branches: How to Detect Cases of Misattributed Parentage in Your Family Tree" by Paul Woodbury.

3)  Transcribed the 1877 Mortgage Indenture of  James A. Kemp to James and Martha Jane Were for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

4)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my Great-GrandUncle James Alexander Kemp (1872-1934) of Ontario and California for the 52 Relatives theme.

5)  Requested ChatGPT-4o AI to create a poem about my great-grandfather, Henry Austin Carringer (1853-1946),  and had Suno.com create a song.  I posted them in "The Builder's Legacy" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

7)  The TreeShare feature in RootsMagic 10 had a problem - now it wants me to TreeShare tens of thousands of profiles that I have not changed recently.  I can't find a way to fix it.  Others have reported the same problem on Facebook.  I will stop using it and eventually upload my RootsMagic tree to a new Ancestry Member Tree in the future, after I finish upgrading my ancestor profiles and changing to historical place names.

8)  Created more short narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for more ancestors in New England and New Jersey and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their spouse, their children, research notes, and sources.

9)  Continued editing place names in RootsMagic to reflect historical place names rather than current place names.  There are a lot more to do!

10)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,039  of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 55).

11)  Searched for records of several ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 73,738 profiles (up 59 from last week) and 147,237 source citations (up 11).

12)  AncestryDNA now has 46,973 DNA matches (up 28 from 22 September) with 1986 "close" matches for me today, with 3 new ThruLines (all true, IMHO).  I added Notes to 3 new Matches, and added 3 new lines of a  match to my RootsMagic tree.  MyHeritageDNA now has 12,879 DNA matches (up 32 from 22 September) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

13) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was "Della's Life Journey" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligencewith over 287 views.  Genea-Musings had about 221,000 page views last week and over 969,000 views for the past month.

14)  Real life:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Saw the dermatologist on Tuesday and she found another basal cell carcinoma.  Finished reading The Never Game by Jeffrey Deaver.  My Padres went 3-3 this week and are 93-69 on the season - and are the #4 seed in the National League playoffs.  Watched the Chargers game and they lost to the Chiefs 17-10 on Sunday.
