Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 27 October 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending 27 October 2024).

1)  Attended the GeneaBloggers Premium webinar with Thomas MacEntee presenting "AI and Genealogy: Trouble Ahead?"

2)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt on Monday, 21 October.  We discussed Findmypast collections, the free WikiTree symposium, church records on the FamilySearch Wiki, and Jill's trip to Denmark.

3)  Transcribed the 1883 Mortgage Indenture of The Canada Landed Credit Company to Daniel B.F. Soper for Land in Middleton Township, Norfolk County, Ontario (which mentions 2nd great-grandfather James A. Kemp) for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

4)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my 2nd Great-GrandUncle Benjamin Seaver (1825-1836) of Westminster, Massachusetts for the 52 Relatives theme.

5)  Requested six AI tools to answer a genealogy research question, and posted answers in "How Should a Genealogist Publish Digital Reports and Books?"

6)  Used Steve Little's custom ChatGPT Prompt to write a genealogical sketch and radio script about my 4th great-grandfather Frederick Sovereen in Stephen Little's Biographical Sketch Generator (ChatGPT AI) - Frederick Sovereen (1786-1875).

7)  Requested six AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics about my great-grandfather, Charles Auble (1849-1916) and had Suno.com create a song.  I posted the poem created by Claude AI, the song lyrics created by  ChatGPT4 AI, and the Suno song MP4 in  "The Painter's Story" -- A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

8)  AncestryDNA now has 47,105 DNA matches (up 14 from 20 October) with 1990 "close" matches for me today, with one new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 3 Matches, and added no new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 12,970 DNA matches (up 18 from 20 October) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9)  Created more short narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for more ancestors in New England and New Jersey and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their spouse, their children, research notes, and sources.  Also continued editing place names in RootsMagic to reflect historical place names rather than current place names.  There are many more to do!  Wrote Rabbit Holes With Randy - Updating My Place Names and Adding Short Narrative Sketches to My Ancestral Families to highlight this task.

10)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,106 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 22).  FamilySearch Records has 3,386 record collections.  FamilySearch Images has 5.477 billion images.    Full-Text Search has 141,220 "+seaver" results.

11)  Searched for more records of several ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 73,805 profiles (up 24 from last week) and 147,249 source citations (up 6).

12) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was   https://www.geneamusings.com/2024/10/georgiannas-journey-genealogy-poem-and.html    with over 298 views.  Genea-Musings had about 241,000 page views last week and over 1,047,000 views for the past month.

13)  Real life events:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to Tami's home in Huntington Beach last Sunday to celebrate birthdays.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Celebrated my 81st birthday on Tuesday and talked to the kids.  Finished reading The Murder Book by Jonathan Kellerman and started The First Lady by James Patterson and Brendan Dubois.  Watched the first two World Series games, and the Chargers game on Sunday (they won, so now 4-3).
