Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 20 April 2025

 Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 20 April 2025).  

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group Meeting via Zoom on Wednesday.  I reported on the 23andMe issue, NathanGoodwin;s Family Tree Webinar, Diahan Southard's website, message board and classes, WATO on DNA Painter, the upcoming SDGS DNA SIG on 3 May, and we discussed MyHeritage features and attendees' DNA challenges.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) British Isles Interest Group via Zoom on Saturday.  Colin Whitney discussed his Whitney research in England from medieval times up to the present, including some rare records and links to Gunpowder Plot relatives.  This was an excellent deep dive into English records.

3)  Attended the Whittier Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) program meeting via Zoom on Saturday.  Bill Cole presented "Move Beyond Census Records to Overcome Obstacles and Break Through Brick Walls" showing lessons learned while researching his grandfather.

4)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt discussion on YouTube on Monday 14 April and we discussed Dan's Canada Quakers article, AI uses, England maps and the DecipherInk app.

5)  Transcribed the 1770 Deed of  Michael Metcalf to Josiah Richardson for Land in Cheshire County, New Hampshire from FamilySearch Full-Text Search.

6)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for 2nd Great-GrandUncle Samuel Rich (1833-1897) of Hilperton, Wiltshire and Putnam, Connecticut for the 52 Relatives theme.

7) Curated genealogy-related articles  to keep myself and my readers updated on the genealogy world in:
9)  Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:
10)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics about my 3rd greatgrandfather, Zachariah Hildreth (1783-1857), and had Suno.com create a song using the lyrics.  Posted the poem created by Claude 3.7 and the song lyrics by Grok 3, and the Suno song link, in "The Cooper's Tale" -- A Family History Poem, Song and Podcast Created by Artificial Intelligence.


11)  Celebrated my 19th blogiversary writing on Genea-Musings in Today is Genea-Musings 19th Blogiversary! Celebrate with Me!!!  Provided statistics from over the years and some musings.

12)  My AncestryDNA now has 48,967 DNA matches (up 64 from 13 April) with 2081 "close" matches today (up 5), with two new ThruLines.  Added Notes to 3 Matches, and added 3 new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,437 DNA matches (up 14 from 13 April) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  

13)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,675 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 103).  

14)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,501 profiles (up 138 from last week) and 147,723 source citations (up 293).  Added more short biographical sketches and source citations to ancestors, and edited historical place names for a number of families.  

15) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was Added and Updated FamilySearch Record Collections - Week of 12 to 18 April 2025  with over 409 views.  Genea-Musings had about 45,90page views last week and over 282,000 views over the past month. 

16)  Real life events:  Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno. Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Went to the dentist on Monday for the left-side deep cleaning and because my #21 tooth broke that it had to be extracted next month.  Attended the Rohr engineer's lunch on Thursday with 10 in attendance.  Finished reading The Edge by David Baldacci and started reading Dead Zero by Stephen Hunter.  The Padres season continues and I watched all of the games this week - they were 3-3 this week (overall 16-6 now).
