Treasure Chest Thursday: 1862 Civil War Muster Records For Henry Carringer (1839-1862)

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - an opportunity to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history research and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1862 enlistment, mustering in and discharge record for Henry Carringer of the 145th Pennsylvania Volunteers Infantry Regiment, Company G, during the Civil War:

Pennsylvania, U.S., Civil War Muster Rolls, 1860-1869," imaged, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/9040/records/209619 : accessed 26 May 2025);, Infantry > 145th Pennsylvania > G (image 2 of 4), Henry Carringer entry, enlisted 11 August 1862, mustered in 29 August 1862, discharged 12 December 1862.

Henry Carringer (1839-1862) was the youngest son of Henry and Sarah (Feather) Carringer of Perry township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.  He died 26 December 1862 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and is buried in Kelso Family Cemetery in Perry Township with his grandfather, Martin Carringer (1758-1835).

There is no known reason for his death or for his discharge.  The regiment left for battles in Virginia in September 1862, and perhaps his Company did not go at the time most of the Regiment departed.  It may be that Henry became ill and/or could not perform his duties and was discharged on 12 December 1862 in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Henry Carringer (1839-1862) was the brother of my 2nd great grandfather, David Jackson Carringer (1828-1902).
