Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1787 Baptism Record of James Vaux (1787-1839) in South Petherton, Somerset

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - an opportunity to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history research and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1787 Baptism of James Vaux in the South Petherton, Somerset Old Meeting (Presbyterian) church records:

The baptism of James Vaux is the last entry on the rigfht-hand side of the paper scrap:

"Dec'r 20'th 1787 Baptized James Son of John & Joan Vaux"

NOTE:  The last name was indexed as "Vana" on Ancestry.com.

The source citation is:

South Petherton, Somerset, Old Meeting (Presbyterian) church records, James Vaux baptism entry, 20 December 1787, son of John and Joan Vaux; "England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1936," Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/2972/records/1508321 : accessed 16 August 2025), Rg4: Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths > Somerset > Presbyterian > Piece 0043: South Petherton, Old Meeting (Presbyterian), 1786-1837, image 12 of 58; Original records in the General Register Office, Government Social Survey Department, and Office of Population Censuses and Surveys, Registrar General (RG) 4. The National Archives, Kew, England.

James Vaux was born before 20 December 1787 in South Petherton, Somerset, England, the first son and second child (of nine) of John and Joanna (Lavor) Vaux.  James married Mary Palmer (ca 1790-ca 1845) on 13 December 1808 in South Petherton, Somerset.  James died 23 July 1839 in South Petherton, Somerset.

James and Mary (Palmer) Vaux are my 4th great-grandparents, through their son Samuel Vaux (1816-1880) who married Mary Ann Underhill in about 1837 in Aurora, Erie County, New York.
