There are many free and subscription websites that do not publish easily findable numbers.

What other websites and what other numbers should I be benchmarking? Are some of the numbers wrong? Please tell me in Comments and I will edit the list above!

What about NewspaperArchive.com and Newspapers.com?

This is a fantastic bit of benchmarking research you do each year, Randy. Thanks for doing this.

You might want to add stats on: OneGreatFamily who claim to be the world's largest online family tree. As I write this, they say their database has 236,512,517 submitted pedigree-linked names.

The other one is GeneaNet. They state they have about two million members who share more than 400 million entries for free in their Online Family Trees, Archival Records, Indexes, Family Pictures and Postcards.

Thanks for putting this together. It's great to see everything in one place and get a sense of it all.

It would also be interesting to see the Alexa ran king of those sites

Randy, where do the Geni.com numbers come from? In a Wall Street Journal interview, Gilad Japhet said, "We [MyHeritage.com] now have 72 million registered users, including Geni, which contributed 7 million." With over 100 million profiles in family trees, this makes sense. After all, the vast majority of the profiles are for deceased people.

Thanks for posting this article. I'm a numbers person as well. I've been a member of Geneabloggers for three months, and it has been one of the best choices I made last year. I love blogging. indirectly because of participating in Geneabloggers I received "An Early Christmas Gift," and was able to share it on my blog. I would invite you to read it. I hope to improve my blogging this coming year. I'm planning another blog which will be more detailed about the research I am doing. Happy New Year!

Grant

Great information. Thanks for posting. I think it would also be interesting to track the growth of the DNA genealogy sites. Family Tree DNA (http://www.familytreedna.com/why-ftdna.aspx) is reporting:

As of January 2, 2013, the Family Tree DNA database has 401,057 records. We also have:

7,211 Surname Projects
274,762 unique surnames
247,956 Y-DNA records in the database
159,988 25-marker records in the database 139,755 37-marker records in the database
64,757 67-marker records in the database
153,101 mtDNA records in the database
21,811 FGS records in the database

--------------------------------------

Not sure if the other DNA genealogy sites have such easily accessible numbers. I would like to see Ancestry.com's DNA numbers tracked yearly, if they are available.

While not from an exact yearly increment prior, something I found for comparison is:

101,171 unique surnames
203,473 Y-DNA records in the database
124,230 25-marker records in the database
105,023 37-marker records in the database
46,117 67-marker records in the database
125,600 mtDNA records in the database
14,077 FGS records in the database
