FamilySearch App Gallery Has Launched

FamilySearch announced the launch of the FamilySearch App Gallery today in a blog post.  The post says:

"FamilySearch.org today launched its online App Gallery to help patrons more easily find the right application from FamilySearch’s many partner applications, or services, to enhance their family history efforts. With just a few clicks, patrons can now begin to search partner apps to find those that meet their specific need, platform, operating system, and price. For example, if a patron is looking for a highly-rated app that will help them analyze the data in their family tree, the app gallery will allow them to filter and find several relevant partner apps to choose from. The FamilySearch App Gallery can be found at www.familysearch.org/apps."

A specific link on the FamilySearch home page replaces the Partners page that I never could find on the FamilySearch website, so this is a good move.

The URL for the site is https://familysearch.org/apps/, short and sweet!  Here is the top of the App Gallery page:

There are six major categories, which you can see by scrolling down the page, or by clicking on the down arrow in the "Browse by Category" tab:

The six categories are:

*  Find Ancestors (8 apps at present)

*  Family tree software (15 apps)

*  Photos and Stories (12 apps)

*  Charts and Tree Views (13 apps)

*  Tree Analyzing (11 apps)

*  All Categories (36 apps)

Apparently, more "apps" will be announced soon.

The "Filters" tab allows the user to find apps by Platform, by Price, by Language, and by interaction  with the FamilySearch Family Tree.

Note that the word "apps" seems to apply to software programs (like RootsMagic), website programs (like TreeSeek), and mobile device apps.

There are some new-to-me apps on this list - I need to explore some of them!
